Say,I'm not sure if this should be here. Or in Show/Competitions. So I'll post it here for quicker response. But does anyone have a link to a list of the upcoming major Skating Competitions? Were you stay in a Hotel and all? I'd really like the list that starts from now going through 2009? Or at least as far as it will go. I checked Skateweb. But it doesn't tell you exactly were they are. As far as town, city, etc. go. Nor does Figure Skaters Website. Thanks.

Three of the major competitions being held in the U.S. are 2008 Skate America, October 23-26 in Everett, Washington; 2009 Nationals in Cleveland, OH; and 2009 Worlds in Los Angeles -- the USFS site has ticket info: http://www.usfigureskating.org/Events.asp?id=148

FSWer, do you know about this upcoming show at the Newington rink?
Parker Pennington [official site: http://figureskatersonline.com/parkerpennington/] has organized and will perform in SKATE FOR LIFE!, an ice show to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association on April 12th from 7 to 9 pm at the Newington Arena in Newington, CT. Emily Hughes and Dan Hollander are scheduled to perform.
A list of upcoming U.S. club shows and benefits is posted at: http://www.skatingforums.com/showthread.php?t=26309

Liberty is a pretty big competition: http://www.libertyskating.org/LibertySub/pdfs2008/Announcement2008-1.pdf

as is Skate Detroit: http://www.dscclub.com/pdf_files/2008_Skate_Detroit_App.pdf

These are the competition announcements- so most of it won't apply to you, but the dates and info about hotels are in there.

Eastern Sectionals (one of the 3 final qualifying competitions for 2009 Nationals) is supposed to take place in the Boston area in November 2008.

FSWer, can you make the show in Newington on April 12?

Eastern Sectionals, in mid-November, at SC of Boston. SCoB is about two hours from Hartford.

I haven't heard anything about any Connecticut clubs bidding/planning to bid on any major events. I won't detail the reasons, because there are several and they're complicated, but I really don't expect Skate America or Nationals to be held in Hartford again anytime soon. Cities bid for events two or three years in advance, and it takes six months to a year to put a bid together, so even if a local club decided tomorrow they were interested in hosting Nationals, it would be 2011 or 2012 when the event actually happened.

FSWer, check the competitions calendar at New England Interclub Council's Website. www.neicc.org It lists all the local competitions in New England, as well as Regionals, Sectionals and Nationals. Most of the listings have links to site for more information.

ScoB is the host club but I don't know if they've decided on an arena/rink yet?

FSWer,

For local competitions within driving distance of CT, the best place for you to look is the New England InterClub Council Event Calendar:

http://www.neicc.org/Eventcalendar.htm

Keep checking, as it get updated as fast as new dates get announced.

Or you can go to US Figure Skating's Events page:

http://www.usfigureskating.org/Events.asp

and scroll down to the search box on the right. If you put in the dates for the next year and select Connecticut, you get a list of all the competitions happening around you.

FSWer, Competitions are added all the time, whenever the organizers send the information to the sites. So you have to keep checking every couple of weeks to see what's new.

I have no clue what your first question is asking. If there are links to competition websites, they'll be included in each listing of the competition. But few of the competitions have "articles" written about them, unless it's publicity right before the event takes place. You're going to have to hunt to find much beyond the application and hotel information for the skaters. For most of the non-elite competitions like Nationals and Skate America, providing information for casual specatators isn't a high priority.

For Nationals and Skate America (which is in Washington state this year), US Figure Skating may have some articles about them to advertise tickets but it's way too early in the year for that.
