1 - Jeffrey Buttle - 82.10
2 - Johnny Weir - 80.79
3 - Daisuke Takahashi - 80.40
4 - Tomas Verner - 79.87
5 - Stephane Lambiel - 79.12
6 - Brian Joubert - 77.75
7 - Patrick Chan - 72.81
9 - Kevin Van Der Perren - 70.24
14 - Jeremy Abbott - 65.61

I will not get my hopes up too high for Jeff ... ok, maybe I will a little. ;) He hasn't been able to put 2 solid programs back-to-back all season ... but there's always a first time!

Another reason to love COP, though: basically anyone of the top 6 could take it.

Whoa, what happened to Joubert? He said in a recent interview that only three men - Lambiel, Takahashi, himself - are in contention for gold this year. Umm...guess again.

I pick Takahashi to win, with Weir and Verner battling for silver and bronze.

Oh, this event has been going so well for the Canadian skaters... dare I dream for Jeff... Outstanding for both our Canadian men - two men in the top 7. Fingers crossed!

Whoa, what happened to Joubert? He fell on his 3 lutz.

Thanks. I read a recent interview in a skating magazine where Brian said that he's doing 2 lutzes in his free and leaving out the flip altogether, because his flip was getting a wrong-edge call. I never thought that the lutz was a solid jump for him. Why can't he continue to do a lip and tell the caller that he's doing a lutz and should be called as a lutz instead? Technically a lip is a lutz. Who cares if the jump is entered from a mohawk entrance.

Wow, Kevin is doing well! Yay!
Did he do his 3a and 4toe? (they're only broadcasting the long here so tomorrow I'm glued to the telly).

He (Brian) fell on his 3 lutz.

He actually has 2.0 listed for deductions -- I think the other one might have been a time fault.

According to PJ Kwong - 2nd deduction for the illegal vocals in Brian's music. Yes it's the same music he's used before without deductions ...

so I guess Patrick fell???

Shocking to see Jeffrey on top... yeah, I won't get my hopes up for Jeffrey as well... He'll probably get the bronze...

Don't forget Carriere in 11th - hope he stays up there, top ten would be nice! I know all of Team Boston is cheering for him!

From the Globe and Mail online site www.globeandmail.com, sports section:

"World champion Brian Joubert of France finished only sixth after falling on his triple Lutz. But that wasn't his only problem. Officials docked marks from his total for having vocals in his music by Sebastien Damiani. Because he'd used the music all season without getting any deductions, the French federation is protesting the assessment. Joubert wore a puzzled look in the kiss-and-cry corral when the marks first went up."

(sorry for the non-MLA style of citation).

I agree that it's wrong to deduct for Brian's music when it has been deemed ok at his previous competitions this season. That decision should be overturned.

I fully agree that what was called all season should be called but ONLY if Brian has had exposure to International callers - I can't remember - did he do the GP this year? If it was only European and Nationals, then those callers may be biased, or let it go. However, if international callers have seen it, then yes, I agree - overturn it.

However, whatever the case - if I was the caller I would also deem those illegal - it's the first set of vocals in his music, where it seems like there are words being sang - the last part voices are more used for music and I wouldn't call those illegal.

Brian competed at Skate Canada. Some skating officials must have listened to Brian's music during the official World practice sessions, so someone should have brought up the subject of the music then.

I'm so happy for Jeffrey Buttle and Patrick Chan!

I was impressed with Joubert's SP, even with the fall. He is a much more versatile skater now than last year. His spins looked better too. Looked like he also lost some weight, and it gave him a lighter and faster image on the ice.

Takahashi's hip-hop swan was amazing.

I can't seem to warm up to Abbott's overall skating. He definitely has style, but something about his facial expression screams pretentious to me. Verna has a somewhat similar extroverted style, but he seems more approachable and relatable than Abbott's.

Joubert's also been ill all season - the bronze at Euros was a result of gastroitis (sp?) and I'm not sure he's fully recovered.

Takahashi's hip-hop swan was amazing.

I think that was one of my favourite programs in the mens event.

We watch DT's Swan Lake on Ice Network all the time - it's just so fun!

We need an overall men's Worlds thread, now that the final results are out - who wants to start one?
