Congrats to Savchenko and Szolkowy for a decisive and well-deserved win. And big congrats to Jessica Dubé and Bryce Davison for a bronze. They were sitting in 4th after the short program, but had a 2nd-place in the long. Zhang & Zhang were first after the short, 3rd in the long, with just enough for silver overall.
Yuko Kawaguchi and Alexander Smirnov were 3rd after the short, but ended up in 4th. Pang & Tong were 5th.
Meagan Duhamel & Craig Buntin - 6th
Anabelle Langlois & Cody Hay - 8th overall (7th in the long)
Rena Inoue and John Baldwin - 10th overall (8th in the long)
Brooke Castile and Benjamin Okolski - 11th

Yeah for S&S. I like them.
American pairs suck. Does the U.S. still have two spots next year for Worlds or do we get three, because we'll host it in L.A.?
Not too bad for Butin and new partner.

Dubé and Davison were utterly fantastic, I thought! So lyrical and beautiful. I actually preferred their routine to that of the Germans (which was also lovely), but they didn't have quite the technical elements. But my goodness, give them another year....
Our own British pair did excellently, finishing a well-deserved 15th.

No, the hosting country doesn't get a "bump" in entries for Worlds. I can't remember what the formula is for # of entries, though, but I think the US will get to still enter 2 pairs.

Did anybody else notice how the other announcer tried to back Carruthers into a corner about the quality of US pair skating? I think Carruthers handled it very diplomatically. He is a class act.

I thought it was a fair and valid question from Terry Gannon, but Peter either didn't want to say anything or didn't know what to say. Terry wanted to know the state of U.S. pair skating now, but Peter kept on referring to the future potential with the current National champion.
Peter also didn't know what to say when Gannon asked him what was it about the U.S. pair O&C that would distinguish them from the other pairs. Peter gave an "answer" that had completely nothing to do with the question, LOL. It was only after O&C had finished skating that Peter went back to the question and said something to the effect, "Oh yeah, it's Brooke's personality that made the pair stand out." Lame. I would've said that for this year it was the choreography from Maria Zuova that sort of made them pop out, at least at Nationals anyway; Otherwise, they don't have much else to make them competitive with the top teams at Worlds.

As much as I am happy for D & B for winning the bronze medal, I don't want them and Canadians to get their hopes up for 2010.... I think luck was on their side but they need to improve on their tehnical side tremendously if they want to compete with the stronger technical teams.. I'm sure the Russians team will surpass them when the time counts and don't forget the Chinese teams.

WOW  Do you have ANYTHING positive to say???? So, D & D only won the bronze because of "luck" and V & M only won the silver in dance because other, better teams weren't there....... sounds like someone is quite bitter about the Canadian success at these Worlds???
FYI: Skate Canada's been working very hard (and putting out the $$$) to develop young skaters to perform well internationally, and I think these Worlds have been proof that the work is finally paying off.

They brought a tear to my eye, did D&D...absolutely stunning. THAT's what pairs skating is about.

Isn't it good that the Kerrs got to 8th place in the Dance. They deserved it for their OD, but I think the judges marked them down on the FD, I don't know why - it is just my opinion. It was unique from the typical FD, but you know what these judges are like! If you go to the NIC in Nottingham, there are Union Jacks hanging from the foyer balcony and everyone at the ice hockey game last night were wondering what they were for. I knew!
COME ON GB AND CANADA!:D
