OK, it's been on tv. I am starting a new thread for discussion.
What struck me the most was the story line about CE1 Doug and Kate being Jackie Dorsey's (CE2) parents. There is a definite time line problem w that. Doug and Kate met in 88 then competed in 92. Assuming they married and she had a baby immediately, Jackie would have only been 14 at the most in Torino.
When I saw CE2, I thought naming the character "Dorsey" was a nod to the original movie not a pedigree. Or does CE1 *seem* that old by now???
And, of course, bringing back the Pamchenko is a giggle for original fans. I had actually been wondering what the "new Pamchenko" would be. I'm disappointed that some new utterly ridiculous physically impossible move was not created for CE3.
All that said, I really liked the Alex character. She was just cute and athletic. She was believable to the point that CE can be believable.

I didn't even realise that they went to torino. I thought it ended at US nationals. I guess that way the time line would make sense but maybe I just wasn't paying attention. I haven't seen the third film yet. I don't think it is out in the UK yet

Overall, I really liked CE3--in fact, much better than CE2. Still, I'll always have that special place in my heart for the orgininal.
I too liked Alex. It was nice to see an unsnobbish (is that even a word, LOL?!) lead female skater.
I was also wondering how they were going to incorporate Jackie Dorsey (from CE2) into the new version because I noticed her name during the credits. It was weird seeing her as a coach, but okay--it worked for the movie.
And, can I just mention how amazingly good-looking Zach (was that his name--the male skater) was! Wow! ;)
As for the Pamchenko: I was also hoping to see something totally unbelievably original for CE3, but I have to admit, my dad (who doesn't skate, but basically knows what can and cannot happen in skating) and I were howling when Alex and Zach were doing the headbanger spin and Zach totally threw her through the air in such a way that she able to do the required revolutions in a vertical position. LOL--Now we all know that if that ever actually happened, the poor girl would have went flying horizontally across the ice, probably into the boards. But, hey...it's a Cutting Edge movie...what do you expect!
As for other inaccuracies (I'm sure you guys can think of many more!):
- In CE3, when the pair is doing side-by-side [flying] camel spins and Zach's skate completely hits into Alex's head, why the heck was there no blood?! I mean, not even a scratch! And, she gets right up and is like, "We must finish the program!" LOL...yeah, I don't think so. I totally saw that one coming, BTW. Jessica Dube and Bryce Davidson, anyone?
- In CE2, when Jackie and her partner are chained together and eating dinner, I noticed that Jackie is eating with her right hand while her partner is eating with his left. Perhaps the directors did this just for the sake of showing how in the way each of them were to one another, but it really bothered me, particuarly since they were both counter-clockwise skaters. Yes, I know that some left-handed skaters jump counter-clockwise and vice-versa, but I don't think that was what the directors were thinking when they did this scene. But whatever, you got to take these movies at their face value. Besides, who else would be bothered by such things but actual figure skaters, LOL!
- In CE2, the male skater learns to skate in just three months. Okay, believable, but not the point that he's landing axels and doubles! I mean, sure...that could happen, but really, how likely is it? And, can I just say how annoyed half of those little girls he was "learning" with would have been had he actually shown up on a freestyle session?

I'll give you all your other points (most especially the camel spins)- but I think you are over thinking this one. I'm strongly right side dominant in everything but I rotate clockwise skating. I know I'm not the only one based on board discussion so I don't think handedness really has much to do with rotational direction.
That said- my husband is right handed, in everything, but eats with his left hand. When he was little he wanted to be a spy and his mother told him in Europe they use their left hands to eat (don't know if this is true or not, as I haven't been in the company of europeans for meals) so he immediatly learned to eat left handed. We are constantly in the way of each other, as he refuses to use his other hand to eat, and since he isn't actually left handed, we both always forget to sit him on the correct end of tables.
I don't have cable, so I missed the third movie. The first is still one of my all time favorites.

I can confirm that Europeans eat with which every hand they want!! but I am British and even though the UK is a member of the European Union, the British do not consider themselves as Europeans. Some actually get quite insulted by that but I guess it is like asking an American if they are from Canada!!!
I am right handed but left footed and so am completely dominant skating to the left and spin anti clockwise. I am more technically correct going clockwise but I think it is because I have to think about it more than going anti clockwise.
I too can confirm that a headbanger cannot be thrown like that as it is more than likely that both skaters would end up on their backsides with the tension release. My last partner got a toe pick in the backside (her full body weight landed on it) when she swiped my feet from under me with her take off leg and I have K pick pattern 99 blades!!! but she turned out to be not a nice person so I feel no guilt about it!!!

I watched all three in one shot yesterday. I like them all and only have one qualm-in CE2 and 3, does the rink look a little smaller, like a mall rink or something? You'd think if they were representing major competitions then they'd be on a bigger rink. Or maybe they just cheapened out figuring no one would notice.

So many things about skating movies are unrealistic - that's what makes them so fun!! The lighting, the crowd, the elements they do (many of them would be considered "illegal")...
I watched CE2 and CE3 over the last couple of days and also caught the first half of "Ice Castles" (which admittedly I had never seen before) - and enjoyed them thoroughly for their ridiculousness and also the repetitiveness of the plot and theme - updated for the times of course. CE3 had all of that rap music and she was a Latina - how perfectly appropriate!!
also didn't realize in CE2 that Jackie was the daughter of the original characters - maybe they mentioned it in the first 20 minutes (which I missed...) - of course the timeline is shortened, unless CE3 is meant to be sometime in the future although I didn't get that sense either.
All in all a fun weekend of trite skating movies leading up to World Championships this week. What else could a girl want?

I have to admit that although the skating part of the movie was brief, it was in Flashdance where Jennifer Beales friend "Jeannie" was a skater trying out for a show. It was the movie that inspired me to have a go at skating many moons ago and I still get that feeling whenever I hear "Gloria" by Laura Brannigan on the radio!! But it was cutting egde that really made me want to do pairs. I love and really feed off the dynamic you get when you really gell with your partner

Wonder why they did not go to the Olys in CE3. Instead the finale was at the "World Fig Skating Conference". That was stupid. Why not just say they are at worlds? They also changed USFSA to USFSF. However, the CoP system was incorporated even in conversation. At the nats Zach asked if the rival team had any level 3 footwork.
BTW, Alex had a scratch on her forehead from the blade attack. Apparently he just grazed her.

Maybe the olympics is getting pickier about who they license their name to. (Blades of Glory used some random name for what I should assume was meant to be the olympics). The idea of Code of Points must not be copyrighted or trademarked or whatever so they could call it that.
From the different boards I've read it sounds like 3 was a lot better than 2. I hope I get to see it some day.

I watched CE 3 yesterday, and was very surprised that it was actually better than part 2.

You know, instead of going to Jackie Dorsey, they should have hired the star from Ice Princess to teach the girl to skate, LOL!
Also, I was sad that they made Jackie divorced.

I was lucky enough to catch Cutting Edge 3. I live near the US and visit quite a bit. Anyway, I think it would have been interesting to see Jackie and Alex still together and coaching Zack and Alex (female ex-hockey player back to figure skater). I was hoping that Jackie would have been coaching at her mom's and dad's rink but that didn't happen. I do think that there was not enough skating in the movie. Maybe when the video comes out, we might get to see the scenes that were not shown on TV. I hope that the video DVD comes out in Canada too. I'd love to bring it to the Skate Canada Adult Championships for us adult skaters to see as inspiration like we got to see Ice Princess at a theater just before competing in 2004.

I liked the movie!
I didn't quite get where Jackie says she isn't really a coach. If that meant she wasn't approved by one of the skating orgs, would they have let her coach? And the prior coach getting engaged to his former and maybe future student - is that within legit professional standards?
>when Jackie and her partner are chained together
>and eating dinner
I don't think the son would have tolerated the whole thing - not from his parent. And they never mentioned going to the bathroom.
>In CE2, the male skater learns to skate in just

He already skated inline - I guess at world class level. If I remember right, what he did at the initial tryout didn't include axels and doubles, just stuff he would already have done inline.
World class athletes can learn related activities very fast. I've mentioned elsewhere a roughly 30 year old gal I met who was practicing triple axels after less than a year skating - nearly as impressive as what the movie guy did. Like the guy in this movie, she had prior athletic training - 20+ years with the Canadian National Ballet. She'd already done ordinary triple jumps on either foot. (She said ballet dancers could do quads if they wanted to - but that would make it merely a sport rather than an art, whatever that means.) As far as I know, she never bothered to compete skating. I bet she could have done OK at adult nationals, if she competed against other ladies who learned as adults.
Besides, the whold point of the SE movies was getting someone who did another type of skating to do figure.
I'm not sure everyone would agree figure skating is harder, like the movie guy said, BTW.
What I don't like about the movies is that a LOT of the skaters, coaches and parents do nasty things. I think the overwhelming majority, including top competitors, are very nice people and wouldn't do those things. I've seen some of the top coaches around here teach, and with very few exceptions, they just don't act anything like that, and most of the kids and parents seem nice too. In fact, same with the hockey folk. I've never seen an audience give anyone a negative reaction. I guess it makes for good theater. I also think the leads weren't very nice to the significant others they dumped for the other leads. Our guy was also pretty nasty to the Russian gal who came to try out.
