"Lysacek will be replaced by 2005 U.S. junior champion Jeremy Abbott. Lysacek fell Wednesday during training, after his right blade broke while landing a triple Axel. "The blade broke at the weld," Lysacek said. "I've been through three blades in the past three days. Obviously, something isn't right.""

Well, this is going to be an interesting Worlds - I also read that Domina and Shalabin (the Russian DAncers who probably would have won this event) will also be out due to injuries.

Poor Evan. BUT better to be healthy next year as we go into the Olympic year. If you're going to sit one out, this is the year to do it.

3 blades in 3 days!?!?!? SHEESH!!! 8O What kind of blades was he using??? Did he switch boots or something?

Anyone think this is a conspirancy by Johnny Weir so that Evan can't place higher than him in worlds?

No? I don't think it's that likely either, but would make for an interesting, soap-operaish plot.

8O Yeah, I'm curious about the blades too...but then again, wonder if he wasn't landing something weird. Most blades shouldn't break like that.

I was so sorry to hear this news. I was hoping someone would post this here, since there are so many skaters on this board. I don't skate myself , so am interested in hearing if this is just one of those freaky things or if it is a more common occurance.

I wish Evan a healthy recovery.

Really bad timing and must be really disappointing for Evan. Hopefully whatever is going wrong and be figured out and fixed.

The quote didn't say Evan was injured though. Seems strange that he and his team couldn't have come up with another pair of blades to use.

The article on "Lifeskate" (http://www.lifeskate.com/) this morning said that he was injured (L forearm, shoulder, and elbow) after falling on a triple axel. Don't know where she got her information...

That is so sad. One of my favourite skaters. Get well soon, Evan!

I am really sorry to hear this. I was so hoping he would possibly even win Worlds this year. Hope his recovery is speedy and uneventful. I'm sure he's terribly disappointed. Have to agree with the poster who said better this year than next though.

I'm not a fan, but am disappointed that he won't be able to compete, as the best competitions are the ones in which everyone skates their best. I hope he heals up soon and finds out what caused his problems with the blades.

That's a tough break for Lysacek. Having your blade break underneath you while you're landing a jump, you have no control with the outcome of the jump. Too bad he didn't two foot the jump on which he had his blade break. If he had, it wouldn't have resulted in him being injured.

It's a rare two footed landing that could actually support a skater on the other foot - don't know if I've ever actually seen one. Instead, the free foot just barely touches the ice in the blink of an eye during the transfer of weight to the actual landing foot.

It is a shame that Evan isn't competing this year, although Jeremy Abbott is doing brilliantly in his place. I hope Evan has a speedy recovery because he is a good skater, and I have never heard of having a blade snap during an accident!
I do think the Americans are cursed this year (not in a bad way) as they are normally in top ranks by now, but maybe next year, more luck will come to them when they are on home ice in Los Angeles!
