I've been so busy this year, I haven't been able to watch much skating. Where is Sasha? Did she go pro? Is she injured? What are her plans? I miss her skating.

This is a bit off-topic, but I was thinking that a lot of skaters seem to be doing the off-season or year-off touring route these days. Not sure if it's for the money or the experience.

Seems to me that the best benefit of doing the 'grand skating tour' is the constant performing without being judged (except on FSU, lol.)

If a skater usually gets jitters before a competition, performing over and over so often in a short time has to ease some of that tension. Neglecting your competition training would be bad, though. I guess if your show routines aren't challenging, or if you allow yourself to flub moves in each show, that's a downside.

Just food for thought.

Just wanted to add about her overall status..... starting last season she was basically taking the Tara Lipinski route for a little while and is dabbling in acting and other ventures. She is not quite as far out of the skating business as Tara, but she is not doing any Grand Prix/nationals, etc. She is supposedly going to decide this spring whether she intends on trying to compete at the next Olympics.

I hope she decides to go to the next olympics, and not give up just yet.

Thanks for the info from both of you.

She is presently going to be in Stars on Ice at the XL Center. Formerly the Hartford Civic Center. BTW. anyone know the story behind the name XL? What it is supposed to mean?

Apparently in December 2007 the naming rights were sold to XL Insurance

An Insurance Company bought it?!! Which the way Insurance Companies work. LOL,I hope that's a wise place to sell to. BTW. it doesn't make sence as people might be replacing the Arena anyway.

I think BarbraM means the insurance company bought the naming rights (pay money and they add the company name to the name of the arena), not that they bought the entire arena itself. Stadiums can make a lot of money by selling their naming rights.

In Baltimore, the naming rights for the Ravens football stadium were sold to a company named PSInet for a while, but then I think the company failed, so the naming rights were sold again.

Cohen skated at Ice Chips last year, and her performances were ehmmm. She might have had a triple toe? When I saw her at SOI, she had only one triple then too. I would have to think that the Olympics is out of her league right now...

Bwah, everybody's left after the last olympics did they? All of Russia's skaters too. And all of them are talking about getting back and it doesn't seem like any of them are really ready.
That'll be an interesting season starting this fall, that's for sure.
