I'm so unhappy tonight. Josee is skating, and this tour is hitting every major city except Winnipeg.... This is no fair at all!!

Well, I'm certainly not complaining--this is the first skating show to come to my province since 1996! :D This tour was actually the front-page story on my local newspaper a few days ago, accompanied by a big photo of all four Olympic pairs champions with their gold medals--and it was published on the main front page of the paper, not the front page of the sports section!
I remember reading in B&E's autobiography that they actually got in trouble a couple of years ago for appearing in both Elvis' tour and CSOI during the same year (this was around 1996 or 1997, I think). It sounded like there was some kind of sponsor conflict prohibiting them from doing both shows--SOI was represented by IMG while Elvis' tour was represented by some other sponsor I can't remember.
But since many of the skaters scheduled on this tour (Tara, S&P, B&S) are also on this year's SOI tour, I'm glad to see this rule has apparently changed! It also looks like this tour is hitting a lot of cities many of the other tours don't usually visit, which I think is a very good thing! Especially here in Eastern Canada, where, except for Halifax, we don't get much of anything in terms of live skating.
Also, I thought Josée retired from touring last year? ;) Oh, well, since she'll be coming to my province, I certainly won't hold it against her if she changed her mind! ;)
BTW, I remember reading somewhere that this show will be televised at some point, but I have no idea which stop will be taped for TV or when the broadcast will take place.
Now if only Kurt and Brian Orser would make a surprise guest appearance in my province for a "3 Amigos" reunion, I'd be in heaven...but I guess I can't have everything, now can I?? ;)
Oh yeah, this tour also has an official website at http://www.sk8withelvis.com/
The site says tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Sept. 23--I guess this must be true for all the tour stops.

I got mine too! The phone is sooo slow...I had 4 tickets purchased (in groups of two) on the internet and I was still waiting on the phone. The only thing that is bad about getting them on the internet is that it jumps around in one section and then goes into the next...like I got row 3 and row 8 in the center section, but those row 8 ones I could have had row 4 in a different section while waiting. But you can never tell...and there is a better chance on the phone of getting closer, but you risk losing them by being on the phone for so long!!
Well that is my beef of the day....I am just glad I got my tickets!! YAY
marlyn
09-23-2002, 01:10 PM
How did you order them on the Internet?? I wasn't able to do that, at least I don't think I could at The Halifax Metro Center.
I ended up in row 15, center section.

mom was on the phone and the internet seeing whatever would go through first. Eventually the net won.
I'm sooo happy we're getting show here. To see both pairs is gonna be awesome.

Jean-Michel is working on the production of this tour. Thus, the reason why Josee is touring - I'm assuming.

Hey...
Just thought I would let everyone know that the stop in Montreal has been cancelled. There is a very small article in Wednesday paper (Arts & Life section). Unforseen circumstances it says... Also states tickets will be refunded at place of purshase.... :(
A very upset,

Count me in as one going !!!! Hubby heard me lamenting about the evening show in London being filled and how I didn't want to sit waaaaaay up there. Anyway, they have added a second show, matinee at 2:00 in London so ..... hubby decided to order me a ticket. Seems I'll be in section 104, Row N in seat 22 or 24. I'm so excited, being able to see Elvis live again. Twice in 2002. Now all hubby has to decide is if he want to fork out more money so the entire family can go.
Counting down the days til Elvis hits this area!!
til later,

Most of the skating clubs got $5.00 coupons towards ticket prices on the Sk8 tour. Call up Forest City SC or the section office and see if they have any, might make it easier to pay for the entire family.

I wonder if there's any chance a second show will be added at the stop closest to where I live?? I tried to get tickets the day they went on sale and found out they sold out in two hours!  I expected tickets would go fast since this is the first time a live skating show has come to my province since 1996, but not quite that fast! I'm also sure I'm not the only skating fan in my province who may miss out on seeing this tour because I couldn't get a hold of the ticket booth fast enough.
I'm sorry for fans in Montreal who have to miss out on seeing this show and I really hope no more tour stops will be cancelled. Even though I may not be able to see the show myself, I know there will be a lot of upset skating fans in my province if our stop is cancelled!

You don't mention which province you're in but, so far, second shows (matinees) have been added in two provinces: Newfoundland (St. John's) and Ontario (London) :)
I've got another lovely story for you.....
Where I live, they were announcing Tara was coming to John Labatt Centre on local radio stations the first few days before and after the tickets went on sale..., BTW ticketmaster itinerary was different on most stuff than the official website, so ignored most of the contradictions and listened to the radio.. tried my hardest to get seats in the first level...but as I mentioned on another thread, couldn't get thru to get the tickets w/o crashing on Ticketmaster....
Other friends of mine bought 7:30 pm tickets only for Tara...
Finally got tickets 3 @110 each from a "scalper' for 4th row, centre ice [two behind penalty box] a week ago for 7:30 pm show---only to find out that Tara was not on the London tour from Clear Channel themselves...they said no, and promptly wanted to know what radio stations, when....
Tara, other than Kurt, is my little one's absolute favorite skater-she has everything Tara that she can get her hands on, has the Nagano tape, SOI tapes, etc....and all this was explained to Clear Channel...We have tried to see her in SOI, but she has never been in any of the shows we've been to... This is a child who would camp outside in freezing rain if she thought it would give her a chance to just get a glimpse of her....
So do you think they-as in Clear Channel- gave a clue that another show might be added in London including Tara? Of course not... not like I have even more money to throw out for this to buy more tickets....
Even better, I find out John Labatt Centre won't exchange my later tickets for the 2pm show....my little one is totally crushed, as someone at the rink this morning was oh so helpful telling her Tara was in the early show...it was so much easier when I could say, no Tara is not coming to London....
I think this might be the last show I even bother to try to get decent tickets for.
The only tickets I will ever attempt again, is if I'm lucky CSOI on ice seats....as if that will ever happen. Sign me a thoroughly frustrated skating mom...:(

I am in London, also....there are many of us in the same boat. Did you happen to get ClearChannel to give you a definite as to WHO EXACTLY would be skating in each show? And while we're at it, did they happen to explain why in the world a skater would come all the way to London and then only skate one of the two shows??????
I will keep my ears open for anyone wishing to trade afternoon for evening tickets, and PM you if I find some.
hey, if you are in this boat too, I suggest you and any others email them...perhaps we can get her to show up for both shows.....[hehehehe]
First I was dealing with the tour director at Clear Channel, now I am chatting with Holmes Communications...they are more prompt...
I was told, the first time I asked for clarification, that the list was as per Ticketmaster and that the print ads were correct- but I noted yesterday in the new print ads that Brian Orser is now in.
Emailed tour director at Clear Channel who said Tara is confirmed for the show yesterday at 2pm, while later on the same day, Holmes said check back today because she is not confirmed for 2 pm yet. Yet she is in the print ads ... And I haven't gotten to the other question re why one show , not another yet....
I raised quite an articulate, and I thought, compelling argument on how people are relying on her the first time, because she was advertised everywhere, and Clear Channel/Holmes were incredibly nice about it, yet horrified because Tara was "not part of the London market" and reiterated this continually.
On the Elvis Sk8 site, Julie Holmes email shows up. Holmes Communications is in charge of press and marketing. This is her email....
[assuming the board does not delete it) or check on the Elvis site under press room, that is where her email is...
jgiles@holmesmark.com
She responds quite promptly...I would suggest an articulate and concerted complaint drive and perhaps it will actually get us somewhere. (we can cross fingers)...perhaps it will help if more people step forward and say they were under the understanding she was in the 7:30 show....
I must admit, no offense to those who bought 2 pm tickets, but it seems strange that when they know that radio ads promoed her for the 7:30 pm show, they would then only put her in the 2pm.....kind of a dumb move, unless the goal is more ticket sales....I've never been so annoyed in my life...
I will advise the rest as the day progresses......and thanks for the help re the 2 pm show.....
Clear Channel just emailed me to say "Tara will definately not be in the evening show".....
Time to get others emailing Holmes...grin

Just received this press release from Holmes:
(TORONTO, Ontario) _ October 22, 2002. Skating star,
Tara Lipinski, has joined the cast for the matinee
performance of Canon SK8 with Elvis Stojko and Special Guests,
November 16 at the John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario.
Tara Lipinski is the youngest Olympic, World, National and
World Professional Figure Skating Champion in history.
She began her domination of the sport at age 14 when
she captured both the National and World titles and
won the Champions Series final. At the 1998 Winter
Olympics in Nagano, Japan, Tara sealed her place in
the hearts of people everywhere when she became the
youngest person to win an individual Gold medal in
any Winter Olympic sport.
Tara joins an all-star cast that includes: Elvis Stojko,
Elena Berezhnaya & Anton Sikharulidze, Elizabeth Punsalan &
Jerod Swallow, Josée Chouinard, Elizabeth Manley, Rudy Galindo,
Surya Bonaly, Dan Hollander, Irina Grigorian and Jeff Buttle.
Please note: Tara Lipinski will not appear at the 7:30 p.m.
performance. As was previously announced, the cast for
that show includes: Elvis Stojko, Brian Orser,
Isabelle Brasseur & Lloyd Eisler, Elena Berezhnaya &
Anton Sikharulidze, Elizabeth Punsalan & Jerod Swallow,
Josée Chouinard, Elizabeth Manley, Rudy Galindo,
Surya Bonaly, Dan Hollander, Irina Grigorian and
Jeff Buttle. Music Director/DJ on all tour dates is
Chris Sheppard.
Does anyone know if this will be televised in the US or Canada? :)
I rest my point that the info is different on Ticketmaster re Buttle, etc, etc...(big grin)
Mind you, I think I may have arrangements for matinee show...
Hope the tour is better organized next year. Have to laugh re the caveat of Tara not at the 7:30.....grin

My guess is that they will televise it. They have done it in the past with his other tours!! Hmmmm, which reminds me...I haven't looked at those tapes in quite some time. I think I'll dig them up!

I read earlier that the Ottawa show was the one being taped for later broadcast. I trust that is still true - it would be nice to have the opportunity of "retakes" here for a change :)

I remember someone saying back when tickets first went on sale that this show would eventually be televised, but there was no information as to which stop would be taped for TV. I'm not sure whether this show will be broadcast in the States, but since they have shown broadcasts of Elvis' past tours, hopefully they'll show this one, too!
victorskid, the show I couldn't get tickets for in time is in Charlottetown, and as of the time I visited the arena homepage (five minutes ago!), they haven't added a second show. But out of all the events scheduled for this venue this fall, the Elvis tour is the only event listed as "sold out!"
I bought tickets for the afternoon show...since I also bought tickets for Kurt's Hamilton show this week, I went for the less expensive seats at Elvis's show but am still in the second row of the upper level. And is it true that Orser will not be in the afternoon show? I always enjoy his skating.

The information about the taping in Ottawa (for CBC) came from the Blade Runners magazine website:Blade Runners tour itinerary (http://members.aol.com/bladerunners999/blade/02shows.htm)
The indication there is that the CBC telecast would likely be sometime in 2003. There is no mention of US airing.

Then the show in NF starts!!
The Afternoon show was the original one. The 7:30 evening show was added after.
First one sold out in and hour and the second one was sold out in 2.
I'm really looking forward to this. It's the first skating show in Mile One Stadium.
