I'm not too sure if we will be seeing a comeback from Irina anytime soon, especially due to the state of Russian skating, but I wish her & her husband all the best!!:D :D

Now this is not one of those pregnancy "rumors" that pops up about Irina once a year or more, is it?

Has anyone ever come back after having a child to win competitions? I know that Katia Gordeeva did, but that was early 90's Pairs skating, and the standard has certainly risen since.

I would think if Irina wanted to come back after she had a child that she could surely find financial backing, even in the United States.

I think that *someone* could certainly come back after having a child. I'm not sure that Irina, given her health crises in the past, SHOULD be that person. It's not really my call, however.

I was never a huge fan of Irina until I realized she might not be around anymore! LOLOL

I miss her power and strength. She was a real woman in the sport of figure skating that now seems to be nothing but little girls. :??

In 1960 Barbara Roles won the silver medal at U.S. Nationals and bronze medals in both the Olympics and Worlds. She retired and had a child. She was asked to come back after the 1961 plane crash that killed the entire 1961 U.S. skating team. She did and placed 1st at Nationals and 5th at Worlds. Of course, those were unusual circumstances but her 5th place at Worlds was quite good considering her time off.

Kristy Sargent-Wirtz was just a teenager when she had her eldest child with another pair skater Jason Turner (who skated with Jamie Sale). She certainly came back to skate strongly for years. Not sure if she came back to singles for a bit or not....
