I'm a very happy camper indeed. :D I had really wanted to buy tix to this show, since it's Brian Orser's farewell tour, but couldn't afford it ... so the fates have stepped in and I won tickets.

Ok, here's my review:
Overall I found this show a bit, well, different. The "theme" (Double Exposure - secret lives of skaters) wasn't much of a theme at all, and didn't really do much to tie things together. They also had all the connecting bits pre-videoed and presented on giant TV screens in the 4 corners of the rink, instead of "live." I didn't particularly like that -- seems a bit of a cheat for a live show.
The big group number, "Peace, Love, and Skating" (60s music medley), was good, not the best ever, but good. And I'm pretty sure David was wearing Scott's wig from his Hair routine.
However I did find the overall quality of the individual numbers to be one of the best yet. Almost all were great, with only a couple of exceptions (notabley Todd -- both his numbers were a complete snore, and virtually identical).
I loved seeing Shen & Zhao as one of the guest performances. They are unbelievable to see in person -- I think it was at least 6 years ago the last time I saw them live. Amazing. The other two guests were both Asada sisters, first Mai, then Mao. Both were enjoyable, but not surprisingly Mao was better (she did her Chopin LP). She really does seem to float across the ice.
Other highlights for me include:
~ Jennifer Robinson, both programs but particularly her "I Don't Want to Show Off," a really great piece of music for her. She is really coming into her own as a professional performer.
~ Kurt, of course, especially his Scarecrow number which I hadn't seen before. Another instant classic, right up there with Rags. He also did Easy, which I never tire of seeing.
~ And of course Brian. He came out onto the ice near the end of the 2nd act and the music was Happy Endings, and I thought to myself "What?!? Not The Story of My Life?" But then after Happy Endings the video screens started playing a montage of his career highlights ... and The Story of My Life started. And I started to cry.
I can't believe Brian is retiring, but he's been at it for nearly 20 years, and deserves a rest. Plus it's not like he's leaving skating altogether -- coaching Yu Na is a big job.
