Hi all! I just started doing figure skating podcasts. My first interview was with Kurt Browning back in March. I know, March? Ages ago, but with all the Adult Nationals stuff, plus life and work, I only just had time to mix it down, edit, and get it up on the internet. I'm still working out a lot of website bugs, and trying to figure out how to load it on the iTunes store, but I just wanted to get it up there before Nationals so you could all listen. So in the meantime, here it is:

http://web.mac.com/rogueelement/iWeb/Site/Podcast/Podcast.html

So I'm sorry if this crashes your internet connection, or isn't downloadable to your iPod. Hey, I'm still learning. But at least it's up for now. Enjoy!

Cool! I liked it. You have a good voice to listen to.

I would've tried to download it for my iPod, but damn that transparent URL in your source code. ;)

Thanks vesperholly! I tried again today to delve through the RSS/XML/source code info, and it's just all gibberish to me. So since i'm an Apple Pro Care member, I set up another free lesson for next week for them to walk me through all of that stuff.

It's hardly useful for me to know how to create and edit a podcast if I can't get it out there for the world to hear it!

Anyone else listen?

Anyone else listen?
Me. Using Amarok on Linux. Good concept. A few echo problems.

It was nice to hear you loosen-up as the interview progressed. I've interviewed and it isn't easy and it's nice Kurt's a good interviewee.

I'm looking forward to future items.

Hey all! Just finished Episode 2 of my skating podcasts, and interview with Rhea Schwartz, the woman behind the adult figure skating movement in the US and now the world.

http://web.mac.com/rogueelement/iWeb/Site/Welcome.html

Thanks to all of you who listened to my first interview with Kurt Browning! I appreciate that there is an audience!

I'm starting to get a better handle on how all of this works, so each episode will hopefully be an improvement on the previous one. And I finally figured out how to get these loaded on iTunes. So once TPTB at Apple review my podcast they'll offer it on the iTunes Store and you all can download it to your mp3 players and listen whevever and wherever. Please subscribe!

Thanks, and enjoy!

Just listened to #2. Your podcast skills are greatly improving!

Interested in suggestions for future 'casts?

Things I'm interested in are Adult TOI (Theatre on Ice) and also how adult skaters can move into being skating officials. Maybe there are folks you can interview on those topics?

Anyway, great job!

Okay, so a friend of mine who knew I was doing the figure skating podcasts thought I should try out for this:

http://www.publicradioquest.com/

I love public radio, and am told I have a good interviewer's voice. But I figured they aren't really looking for a skating show! So I tried to think of something else to do, and couldn't, so . . . I submitted a snippet of my last podcast interview with Rhea Schwartz (with her permission, naturally). Eh, why not! Maybe they'll like my voice enough to have me do another show.

So please vote for me, if you like it! I think there are two weeks left to vote, though the submission deadline is midnight tonight.

Hi all. Episode #3 is up and running, an interview with Oleg Vasiliev (1984 Olympic Champ, 1988 Olympic Silver Medalist, and coach of 2006 Olympic Champs Totmianina & Marinin).

http://www.manleywoman.com

I also finally had the time to set up a MySpace page so that the teenage skating crowd will find them. So if you have a skating teenager, let them know!: http://www.myspace.com/manleywomanskatecast

So now these are on MySpace, iTunes, and linked just about everywhere skating-related. Took a while, but now I can finally just enjoy doing the interviews and not worry about all the setup! Whew!

Make sure to hit the "subscribe" button on iTunes or on the web page if you want them to download to your iTunes automatically.

Thanks, and enjoy listening!

This month's skating podcast is with Diana Ronayne, Ryan and Dan's coach (as well as Parker Pennington for a short time, and many many other high-level kids). Diana Ronayne coached them both and had some great stories to tell.

Plus, as the Director of Skating for Shattuck St. Marys . . . a boarding school in MN with an elite skating program . . . she has a lot to say about balancing academics with sports.

Also, it was pointed out to me by the webmaster at http://www.kurtfiles.com that the older epsiodes disappear from iTunes as I upload each new one using iWeb. ACK! I was planning on switching to a new and more podcast-friendly hosting service anyhow, so during Novemer I'll be making the switch. Then hopefully I can restore those former episodes onto iTunes again. Sorry! But they are still available on both my site at http://www.manleywoman.com and on http://www.podcastalley.com.

But the current one is now on my website at http://www.manleywoman.com, and on iTunes. Just search for the manleywoman skatecast.

Thanks everyone.

The latest manleywoman skatecast is up on my site at http://www.manleywoman.com, and should be on iTunes shortly.

My friend Kim and I had a portable recorder and got some great spontaneous interviews with people we found throughout the competition (including fans, Aaron Parchem, Tanith Belbin, John Baldwin Sr, Brooke Castille, and some others). So it gives a flavor of what it was like to be there.

There are also pictures up on the blog section of the http://www.manleywoman.com

Working my way through the top-level California coaches . . .

This month's interview is with John Nicks, coach of Sasha Cohen, Babiloina/Gardner, Starbuck/Shelley, Naomi Nari Nam and many many more.

He has some pretty interesting stories, like skating in South Africa under the times of apartheid, being a judge on Fox's Skating with Celebrities, as well as the disappointment of Tai and Randy's withdraw from the 1980 Olympics.

Good stuff.

Doug Wilson is just finishing up his 50th year as a producer and director for ABC/ESPN, and was honored on TV this past March by Terry Gannon at the World Championships in Sweden. He's won Emmys for his work, and is in the US Figure Skating Hall of Fame for his dynamic coverage of skating.

For all those who have wondered about how skating is covered on TV, you'll find this fascinating to hear how it develops behind the lens. His coverage of the "Battle of the Brians" at the 1988 Calgary Olympics is particularly interesting.

I'll warn you . . it's a looooong intervew! About 1 hr 19 minutes! But lot's of great information in there.

Hello all. Here's a nice looooong podcast interview (1.5 hours!) with Tai Babilonia to help you pass the hot summer days.

Tai Babilonia, along with her partner Randy Gardner, were two-time Olympians, 1979 World Champions and stars of Ice Capades. Their heartbreaking story about how they had to withdraw from the 1980 Olympics still touches fans to this day. Tai graciously spent a lot of time talking with me about how she started in skating, the current state of US pairs and her mentoring of McLaughlin/Brubaker, and her new journalistic adventures writing for International Figure Skating magazine. And that's just a snippet of what she talks about!

As always, my podcasts are available both on my website at www.manleywoman.com and on the iTunes Store and are free to download.

Next month: Slavka Kohout Button

I hope you enjoy!

f you're a Janet Lynn fan, you're going to LOVE this podcast!

Even if you're not, you'll love it anyway. ;-)

Slavka Kohout ran the skating program at the Wagon Wheel resort in Illinois for 17 years. She ruled the place with an iron (but loving!) fist, and created great memories and incredible legacies for all her skaters. Students included Janet Lynn, Gordie McKellan, Mary Scotvold, Didier Gailhuguet, Debbie Stoery, the Santees and many many many more.

Tom Dickson is a world-class choreographer who has worked with YuNa Kim, Ryan Jahnke, Matt Savoie, Yukina Ota, Lu Chen, and many many others. He had an interesting career competing against Scott Hamilton and Brian Boitano back in the day, and also spent many years in Ice Capades and with Torvil & Dean.

Episode #37 of the manleywoman skatecast is up!

Rory Flack is best known for her professional career as a skater with numerous ice shows . . . from Ice Capades, to Halloween on Ice, to even creating and choreographing Ebony on Ice, the first ice show with an all african-american cast. And did you know that she was the first skater to ever appear on Saturday Night Live?

Listen to hear more fun facts about Rory Flack. At iTunes or at www.manleywoman.com

Next month: Richard Zamboni!

Barbara Wagner and Bob Paul were the 1960 Olympic Pairs Champion and multiple Canadian and World Champions. They dominated pairs skating during their tenure, so much so that during their entire career they always got straight first places with the exception on ONE second place mark.

He has some really interesting things to say about working with Peggy Fleming, Yuna Kim's feet, and what it was like doing choreography for the Donny and Marie Show.

An awesome interview . . . one of my favorites!

Free on iTunes and at www.manleywoman.com

Thanks!

Too bad it's only available in QuickTime format.

I rather do toe jumps on my face than install that catastrophe on my Windows Machine.

Episode #39 of the Manleywoman SkateCast is up!

Does the name Allison Scott not ring a bell? She just happens to be the very cool mother of two-time US Nationals Champion Jeremy Abbott. She shared with me what it's like raising an elite skater (while also raising two other talented children) and also how she and her crew manage to keep Jeremy's fans updated through social media, among many other topics.

Listen at either the iTunes Store or at www.manleywoman.com

Have a great weekend!

Any plans to release them in a format other than QuickTime, or putting them on YouTube. I've had too many horrors with iTunes. I can't bring myself to install it :<

I'm sorry to hear that. For right now they are only in those two formats, but I am hoping to redo my website later this year and be able to offer them in multiple formats.

Hey everyone. Episode #40 of the Manleywoman SkateCast is now up. It's an interview with hot sports agent Tara Modlin. She's incredibly passionate about being an agent and working with her clients. She gives some insight to her exciting world.

(Honestly, with my organizational skills, passion for skating, and ability to go on little sleep, I should call her for a job! She does make it sound like the dream job.)

Next month: the 70th reunion of Ice Capades!
