Sydney today - A boat which crashed with a ferry was carrying skaters, coaches and officials attending the Kathy Casey seminar. Two judges have been killed. What a terrible shock.
Our community here is very small, most people here will know of those who have been affected.

SMH have updated the story and included details of all the victims involved. I am just praying that by some slim chance they find Morgan Innes alive...

I am so sad at this news. It took me back to similar feeling in 1961 when the US team was lost in the plane crash in Belgium.
Gone before their time, young lives lost. Still, their achievements stand they did their best with the time they had.

My thoughts and prayers are being sent as well - hopefully they'll find the missing skater, alive and well?

How tragic - I hope they find the missing skater. My sympathies and prayers to the families involved.

I think deep down we all know the outcome of this isn't going to be good. She would have been in the water over 15 hours by now!
The fact there were any survivors is a miracle in my opinion. Morgan (the girl missing) skates at our rink and she is such a lovely girl and a great skater.
I haven't worked out how to tell Lilly what has happened, except I told her she has been in a bad accident but they haven't been able to find her. Like most of the bigger girls at the rink, she used to come and pick up Lilly and carry her around and give her big hugs if we were there at the same time ....
It's just so sad :(
How very tragic. My heart goes out to all the injured, families and friends. AW1, I think you are doing the right thing in holding off on any more details for now, but I would just be concerned about her hearing speculation at the rink. There are bound to be people who are already mourning.

dbny, my mum came and took Lilly to her place to stay the night tonight. My mum just sent me a message on MSN to tell me this.
"On the way home she told me that Morgan was skating on the ice rink in heaven now. SHe also said that Morgan loved her and that she always picked cuddled and kissed her when she saw her.
She said - you know there is an ice rink in heaven nona? I said how do you know that - she said she just found out."

Wow, your daughter figured it out very quickly, and seems to be handling it well. Are there any updates?

No updates on Morgan. The search and rescue no longer consider it a rescue, it's been too long :(

You have a wonderful, wise girl AW1. At times like these, children are often stronger than we know.

Our community here is very small, most people here will know of those who have been affected.Generally, I don't know who all the reigning national champions are, but I had just read an article in Intl Figure Skating (April 2007) about Sean Carlow going to Worlds and how he's coached by his mother, Elizabeth Cain. How strange that I would read this one day and then find out about this tragedy the next.
Still hoping and praying for some good news, however small. I do hope they find the missing skater, regardless of the outcome. My condolences to the Australian Skating Federation.
The article said that the one boy saved his mother.
That is fantastic that he had that chance.

Well, at least her family can give her a proper funeral. What a shame for everyone involved. God bless.

Thank you for the link, AW1. My thoughts and prayers are with her family, and that of Ms Cain's as well. I hope she is able to recover from the brain injury mentioned in the article.

I miss morgan soooo much.
my friends and talked about this and we agreed that it hasn't sunk in even now that morgan wont walk into the rink at training sessions and skate with us. Lily's words are so adorable that i hope nobody minds that i use them in a video im making for my myspace. The video is remembering alan, simone and especialy morgan (because i know/knew her best).
I still havn't chosen music to go with it so does anybody have ideas?
i was thinking of maybe dj samie heaven or something like that...
on the subject of why bad stuff happens to good people - i dont believe in karma, i believe in amrak. this is the opposite of karma which can be taken as: Good people make good things but the bad people take it away and leave only the bad things to happen to the good people. OR the type of person you are does not affect the stuff that happens to you ie. crap happens
