Well, I'm never exactly thrilled to see someone walk away with the gold after placing 3rd in the LP ... but that's how the points system works, so I guess there's not much we can do about.
Very glad to see Takahashi win his first world medal. I've really liked him all year. Can't wait to see his skate -- it was obviously great.
I feel bad for Jeff. I thought after finally nailing a clean SP he'd have great confidence going into the long ... but this season just wasn't meant to be I guess. Edited to add: apparently he attempted a quad, so I give him credit for trying that at least.

This will probably not sound very nice, but part of me is glad that Weir and Lysacek did not medal, as I think they need to realize they need to up their game to compete against the other men in the world. I have not seen or heard anything about their performances, so this is a general comment.
I just feel like Lysacek and Weir have gone far too long without having a quad in competition... (Lysacek just started using it this fall, and I think Weir has tried a couple of times). Plus, I am one of those people that do not like when people reuse their programs, so I really wasn't looking forward to Lysacek medalling off of the same LP as last year.
JMHO. I like Weir and Lysacek; I just think they need to work harder to become the champions they want to be.

So, did the USA lose a men's spot? Are we down to just 2? How about the Russians (or lack there of...)? What a difference from a decade ago!

I thought that 2 skaters placements had to add up to 13 to garner 3 spots for the next year?
So Evan at 5 + 8 for Johnny = 13. So we should have 3 spots for next year. Am I right?
I am saddened that Evan and Johnny did not medal. I disagree that Evan needs to up his game. Evans' skate at Nationals would have easily medaled at Worlds. He was just "off". Now, Weir is the Anna Kournikova of Mens skating. I am really starting to get sick of him.
Heck, mostly everyone was "off". Joubert was not great, Takahashi had problems, Buttle and Weir were horrid. Thomas Verner had the most exciting LP, in my opinion.
The Mens LP's at this Worlds were jusy awful. Awful.

Yep, definitely tired of Evan's LP. Definitely time to do something new. He and Johnny just looked particularly weak compared to the others, IMO. Despite some mistakes, I liked Lambiel's performances. And I liked Joubert and Verner as well.
I do think Evan is trying, and has potential, but for me he has done the same program for too long, so for me it wouldn't have mattered if he did it well or not.
But I do still think that he and Johnny have waited way too long to do the quad. Many of the guys they are competing against have done them for years, and there really isn't any reason for them to have waited as long as they did. I think they will have the same problem Eldridge did...he got by without a quad for so long, that by the time he tried to add one, he was just too late in the game and had trouble doing it consistently. I have a feeling that Evan and Johnny, if they don't really work hard at it and start adding it to every competition, that they could have the same problem.
But who knows? Next year could be a whole new ballgame.
I love Weir, but it just seems that he is really confident that he can win without a quad. Regardless of what he thinks, he is NOT Sasha Cohen.
I agree that Evan using the same program as last year kind of stinks. But I notice that no one said anything about Joubert using his 2004(?) LP during the Grand Prix Final. Or was it Europeans? Is it my imagination, or is the Bond SP recycled?
I feel bad for Evan. I predicted that neither he, Johnny nor Buttle would medal. But if Evan or Johnny were going to medal, THIS was the Worlds to do it. Everyone was so blah, that anyone giving 110% could have had a really great chance of winning, or at least medaling. Look at Thomas Verner. If he had been higher in the SP, surely he would have medaled.

For me the difference is that because last year was an Olympic year it feels like I have seen Evan's LP a lot at major competitions.... last year's Nationals, Olympics, Worlds, and then all of the comps this year.
As for Joubert, I think there was a break in between using the same program, so it didn't seem quite so obvious...plus this year was kind of his "return" so to speak in that he found his competitive game again. So, the programs feel a bit renewed. I honestly cannot remember when he used that program in the past, but I think you are right that he has, for whatever reason it does not stand out in my mind as much as Evan's.

Umm... Sasha Cohen didn't win either.... Her strategies haven't worked out for her, have they? So, Weir is a bit like Cohen, in that they both haven't been able to pull it together and put it out there when they need to.

I was meaning that Johnny does not have the kind of presentation that Sasha has to win medals even when she messes up.
Sasha can fall twice and still win an Olympic Silver. Johnny does not have that luxery. ;)

I thought Daisuke's performance was spectacular. He had so much passion, and it gave me goosebumps.

I like Dasuiki style across the ice but enough aready with him running one hand down the side of his face. He does that move about 3-4 times in about every performance.

ITA. His exhibition was also fabulous. From the first time I ever saw him skate, I was entranced and hoped he would become consistent enough to make it to the top.

As for me,i think that those who were worth winning a medal have won. And i am really glad that Lysachek failed. His programmes are not interesting at all. :!:
What about Lambiel, I think that just because of his missing a season he hasn't managed to win,but i liked his performance.
And i am really glad that Lysachek failed.
That is a really weird thing for someone to say.
I have skaters I am not extremely fond of, but I cannot remember when I was happy that they failed.
Lysacek did not medal because he was off. If he had skated clean, against what the other skaters did, he would have won the Bronze, at least.

I think that Lysachek is really a very poor skater. He is not able to make a show. His presentation is poor and technically his prograsmmes are not difficult at all. :!: :!: :!:
I am tired of seeing weak skaters on the podium and that's why i am happy that this year the three best are really the three best!
And do you really think that if Lysachek had managed to perform without faults he would have been the third?:?: :?: :?:

I whole-heartedly think that.
Evan has won 2 Bronze at previous Worlds' with just "okay" performances.
I think if he had placed Top 3 in the SP, and gave a performance like the one he had at Nationals, I could have very well seen him win it all.
While Evan is not as "artistic" as say, Johnny or Jeffrey, he is much better than Todd Eldredge (a World Champion), and I would even venture to say that Evan is at least as good artistically as a young Brian Boitano (World and Olympic Champion).
Unfortunately, American men today just don't have the attack that Boitano and Eldredge had. Heck, Galindo and Weiss would go balls to the wall to try and get the job done.
There is no reason to doubt that a clean Evan could defeat a sloppy Lambiel and Joubert.

Do you really think so?! Lysachek won two bronzes just cause he should won in the opinions of the judges. I still insist on his being a very ordinary skater without any peculiarities. It's not interesting to watch him! He simply isn't able to reach the level of Lambiel and Joubert. He has nothing to show to his opponents:frus: :frus: :frus:
