I'm doing PreBronze Free I, although I'm guessing some of the age groups will be combined. Just trying to look at this as a fun performance/learning experience vs. competition. I really don't know how big a part nerves will play; I just want to get through it with solid skating and a smile on my face!

I'm doing prebronze freestyle - at first I thought from the schedule they were putting all the age groups together, but from my letter, it looks like they just combined IV & V - which actually puts me on the younger end - usually I'm the older competitor.
I'm also doing solo Rhythm Blues and I signed up for the Cha Cha, but I have notworked on it much, so I'm thinking of scratching that...I dunno...maybe I just go out and give it a go since I've already paid...
THis is my first All Adult Competition. My daughter is going to put me on!

This will be my first competition in 10 years and my first as an adult. I hear it is a lot of fun and am looking forward to the more relaxed enviroment rather than the cutthroat tension ridden ones I did as a kid. Unfortunatly because of my "testing out" 10 years ago, I am grandfathered into Masters Senior. Im going to sectionals to do Championship Masters and have no idea what Im up against. I only hope to just make it through my program! Best of luck to everyone!

Has anyone heard about their practice times? I know it is a mammath job organizing these things and I don't want to unduly bug them, but since my event is early Sat am, I don't want to have to go over Friday night and see when my practice is...

Mids Champ ladies are very solid, usually 2lutz solo and in combo, same for 2 flip, good flow from all the skater's. There should be 11 of us in total 4 from Nov, 3-4 from Jr and the rest Sr tests passed. I will be finishing last as I am recovering from hip surgery this summer and can't even do or attempt any doubles due to lack of strength. The skaters are all very nice, you can find me easily I have a noticeable limp and I'm 5'10, I am also the oldest in the group @ 42, even though there could be a few close to my age, Jenny is 40...lots of variety.
Good luck it's a fun event.

oooh, ok so forgive me but it think I have this correct...in Ch. Masters, all age groups and levels (Nov, Jr, Sr) are combined into one group?
How many skaters are there total? Also, if you are the oldest at 42 whos the youngest? (which by the way, a friend of mine is 45 and winning marathons- so age means nothing)!

Yes, you have it correct regarding masters. Champ Gold is all ages too, but just the gold level.
In the past, there has been a skater in champ masters who is in her 70's. Pretty impressive!

Welcome to the Championship Masters group! I might very well be one of the youngest (I just turned 23), but I don't really know what to expect. I don't have a double lutz in my program, and for this competition, I'm doing a flip-loop instead of a double flip. I haven't really had time to condition because of my work schedule, so that'll be my biggest challenge. I really just want to go out there and have some fun (and maybe skate early in my group so I can marvel at the others after me!).
I'm pretty sure Championship Masters combines all ages and levels, yes. I'm technically a masters novice (int. free and novice moves passed). Now I just need to get over the nerves issue. I'm telling myself that I'm going to enjoy this competition or else because I'm not competing again most likely for a few years (going back to school). Hopefully I can overcome the anxiety and have some fun. :)

Well, fancy that. I'll be the one in the turquoise dress with the look of abject terror on my face. So far, so good, though. sorry no results because I don't really know anyone.... but I skated the older group of Pre-Bronze and skated the best I have ever done in a competition. Waltz jumps could have been better and I left my best lunge on the warm up but I really had good spins, I wasn't nervous and my daughter says I did really good. My back spiral got shakey and I just kept holding it telling myself I wasn't putting my leg down until I got it up as high as it would go.
And the fun thing is that there were only 4 of us and they give out pewter medals and I got a medal. AND ONE JUDGE PUT ME THIRD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This the first time I haven't received all last places in freestyle (even the no test people did harder stuff than me) So I'm happy. My daughter was a really good coach.
On to dance in a few hours.

Champ gold ladies winner was Cindy C., two newcomers in second and third and Shannon K. in 4th .
Ordinals for 4-8 were pretty much all over the place, with almost everyone receiving a qualifying ordinal -- tells me it was a pretty darn close event for those of us in the middle.
Paul and Judy won champ pairs, and I can't remember the rest.
Larry H. was totally awesome winning champ masters men with a beautiful triple sal and double axel. There was some seriously good skates in that event.
Chris W. won champ gold men - he did a totally huge double sal right at the end of his program.
A couple of our skatingforums own qualified today  , but I don't know if they want to be identified on line. Maybe they'll identify themselves, or PM me so I can spill the beans. YAY to them!!!

Chris W. won champ gold men - he did a totally huge double sal right at the end of his program.
Because my day was so broken up I really didn't get to watch as much skating here as I'd hoped but I did get to see this event and it was wonderful. Chris (I only know his name because that's who I sent my practice request to) had such beatiful flow and every time he did something well he would just beam - we could see his smile from the top floor we were watching from.
There was a guy with a tie (that flopped around and I feared it would distract him) that did a back spiral that lasted longer than I have ever seen any senior man or woman on TV hold...and awesome spins.
I know Burton from Des Moines and he was disappointed with his jumps but he looked really good. ANd there was a guy who skated in jeans who's jumps were just amazing. I think if I only got to watch one event - this was a good one.
And the gold pairs skated just before my dance and they were both amazing.

Okay so my dance event
My practice went really well -- my daughter really enjoyed coaching me there because as she said "I have done everything wrong you can do in dance and now I can fix anything"
So in the warm up for the Rhythm Blues they played a different song than the one at practice, it was music I'd never heard before and I was freaking out but my daughter said my timing was fine. Then for the competition they played the same music they did in the practice. And they did that for every dance except the cha-cha- played different music in the warm up than the comp and frankly I think that's kind of a dirty trick but whatever.
So I totally muffed up one of the step behinds in the Rhythm & Blues but it was good otherwise. My cha-cha wasn't as edgey or big as I managed in practice but my daughter said I was fast. And I really enjoyed it and frankly I think I put some attitude in it. No question about the results - 4th out 4 in Rhythm Blues (yay- pewter for me) and 6th out of 6 in the Cha Cha, but wonder of wonders, one judge put me 5th.
The top two in both dances were way and above everyone else but frankly, (and no offense if anyone in question is reading this), I think it was my non-step behinds that put me last. I believe I'd have done better if could do a freaking step behind. So that should motivate me because I think I could own the cha cha.
All in all, I had a lot of fun, I'm glad I didn't scratch the cha cha and I had a great time.

but wonder of wonders, one judge put me 5th.
AND ONE JUDGE PUT ME THIRD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey all.
Well, I didn't qualify (probably a good thing because that Championship Masters group is nerve-wracking), but I had a BLAST.
I missed my double toe-double toe and had to deal with just a single toe at the end, and my second double toe did this 1.5 rotation thing where I just landed forward, confused. Never done that before so I have no idea what happened (usually I just rotate 2 times and fall on my butt if it's an issue).
BUT I nailed my double loop, double sal, and axel, and my spins were pretty good. By the end of the program, I actually had fun. :) My coach seemed happy about the program, too, except she did say we're adding my double flip back into the program for AN. . .eep.
Wish I could report on the rest of the Championship Masters group, but I skated dead last, so I didn't even get to see any of the others. Luckily, I purchased a DVD, so if anyone really wants to know how things went, I can post play-by-plays once the DVD arrives. Let me know.
It was nice to meet all you sweet people. I was the girl checking people in at the ice monitor station from 3:30-7:30p.m. You all looked wonderful and inspire me! Hope to see you at AN next month!! :)

I'm so excited that my synchro teammate qualified for Championship Master Ladies! She got 2nd! :D
That's really awesome! I seriously can't wait to get the DVD and watch. Seriously, of the entire 45 minute event, I only saw 1 person do a double flip as I walked by to check where we were in the group, and then I saw one person fall on a jump right before I took my turn. My coach always bemoans the fact that they can't have a Gold part 2 level for me. She thinks I'm way above what most Gold Ladies do, but I just don't have the speed, poise, and flow as other Masters Ladies. I told her that's why they created open events that actually have level restrictions. Masters Novice is my friend. :halo:
The only sad thing about the Masters event was that no MN skater qualified out of the ladies group to my knowledge. Would've been nice to get at least one local skater through. Maybe next year.

Thanks for the compliment! I've NEVER done any type of qualifying competition before, so I was glad not to fall (that durned double toe, though. . .!). I don't have the money to buy pictures (going to law school next year and saving as much as possible beforehand), but I did splurge to buy the DVD of the entire group. Perhaps USFSA has different rules; NISA does it the way the ISU does it for major competitions.
Glad you had a great time!
I've never seen compulsary dance at a major competition. Nationals (for the young uns) will be in Minneapolis next year and I'm going to buy tickets for the compulsarys at least.
It just seems to me they ought to at least play the music for the comp for your warm up, I don't think it should be a contest of who can pick up on the music the fastest. But then I tend to have timing issues. I said something about the music being different to someone who competed the 14 step and she said "Was it different? I didn't even notice"

The tunes might be different, but the underlying rhythm is exactly the same, and that is what we are supposed to be skating to!

Hi everyone, this is the first time I've been able to get on the computer since I got back from Mids. This was my first all adult event, and I thought it was wonderful. Everyone was so friendly and supportive, especially sk8er1964 and coskater64 who I got to meet in person! (I probably met even more people without realizing you were on the board.)
Since sk8er1964 didn't spill the beans, I will... I came in 2nd in Champ. Gold Ladies!
I am absolutely thrilled to have qualified, but it was a somewhat disappointing skate. I really wanted to do a clean program, and did one in practice the day before I left. But, it wasn't to be in the actual competition. I had a fluke fall on my combo spin (which I may never forgive myself for), I got the rotation on my double toe but couldn't hold the landing and fell out of it, and I turned out of my last axel.
I hadn't watched any of the ladies before me because I was too nervous, but everyone I saw coming off seemed pleased with how they skated. I really didn't think that I would qualify after my skate. I had even taken my dress off and was having it taken back to the hotel. When the results were posted, I had to run and change back into it for podium pictures. :D

That's my trouble - I get distracted by the melody. It's a good thing I sing soprano in choir and they usually get the melody lines...;)

Wow, that is fantastic!! Congratulations!! :D And it says a lot about your skating that you were able to place so high even with a few mistakes!

You sound like my Husband. No, he doesn't sing soprano (and I wish he wouldn't sing at all ), but he finds it hard to listen for the beat. I'm not that great at it, either, but he's got a bit of a block about it now.

For those of you who ordered a DVD of your event: Did anyone get told that they didn't have time to make the DVD and that they'd send it to you on the Monday after the event? I think Championship Masters Ladies was the main one they were going to wait on. Has anyone received the DVD yet in the mail? I'm all antsy wanting to see how my competitors skated!

They told me they'd send it to me since I didn't have time before 8:30 am to order it. I do believe they said they would send it MOnday. I don't usually believe those ambitious promises though.

Sigh. It's been a week, and I still haven't gotten my DVD. My coach actually wants to go over the thing with me before Nationals and my family is visiting this week, so I'd like them to see it, too. Maybe I'm just being impatient, but I think I'm going to call them tomorrow and ask what's up (in a nice way). They promised it'd be sent last Monday, and I live close enough that it should only take 1 day to get it to me. Blah!
Done complaining. . .I'm just used to being able to pick up the DVD on the same day as the competition is all.

Yea I really want to see it because I got a DVD of the first time I did my program at the beginning of March and I'm really hoping to see some improvement!
The check did clear the bank early this week so maybe it will be in the mailbox today!

Make sure they credit you for the $15 you had to deposit for action shots. The deal was that was supposed to come off your order, but when I ordered my photos that didn't happen and I had to call and request a refund.

Any luck getting the DVD, j? I left them a message on Tuesday, but I haven't heard anything. I even told them my family was coming to visit and wanted to see the tape. Well, the family's here, but my DVD isn't. My parents were pretty disappointed. And, seriously, it'd only take a day in the mail to get here. We're in the same metro area! :x

 They were so good about getting me my event at MN State before I left the competition. Then again, I remember back to when it took 3 months (no returning messages either!) to get my ice show tape. And then there was a problem with the camera where the music wasn't playing in tune with the skaters and everyone was outlined in a horrible blurry hue. That had better not happen again this time!
My parents leave tomorrow, and I still have no DVD in hand. :frus:

Is this the same company for all these mishaps? 8O It would be nice if they would at least return our calls.

Woohoo DVD arrived today.
Review -
My Chacha was hot!!! And I was spot on time. Gosh darn stupid non-step behinds!
Rhythm Blues didn't look so good. It seems like each new dance I work on I am better at that the previous ones.
Freestyle
What was not hot --
I hate how I look in my dress. It looks so good on a hanger but it makes me look like a big round fat tourquois ball! I am getting a more flattering dress before I do this program again.
Posture Posture Posture ---and why oh why does it feel like my leg is so high and straight and in reality it is not even close???
What was hot - my spins -- whoo hooo - 5 revolutions on my one foot spin and seven on my two foot. My two foot spin is supposed to be with my arms over my head but they are actually a little forward -- I need to relax my shoulders, arch my back more

You didn't get yours yet???? I'm in Iowa - four hours away! I'm sorry - didn't mean to rub it in, I was sure you'd have yours by now.
I'm not real happy with the quality of it. I have some other videos by this company and have not been real impressed.

Still no freaking DVD for me. I keep meaning to call them, but life gets in the way. I just really wanted to see my skate before Nationals (originally we were going to look at it and make changes accordingly but it's a little late for that now :??). I know it's a family-run company, but this is ridiculous, especially when I was verbally promised that they would send my video to me on Monday 19 March, almost 3 weeks ago.
For shame, CG Video, for shame.
They'd just better get it to me soon, because I'm moving out of state pretty soon and I'll be ticked if I never get it!

Does anyone know why the MidWesterns is not up on IceNetwork?
Whisper,
The same thing happened to us with a local video company. We really needed the feedback after we did Ashburn, so that we could make some corrections for E. Sectionals, but the company never delivered...we didn't see our skate until after E. Sect! Very unprofessional. I really sympathize with you...they have no idea how important it is for us to have this feedback, and, as soon as possible after we've put it out there.

I called the Network, and after calling three times, and being on hold for over 40 minutes, before someone answered, they advised me that have the original source video and are rendering it. The person I spoke with mentioned they usually appear within a month of the event....so who knows when they will finally appear. Hopefully, before the subscription for the current year runs out! :??

Hey lovepairs,
What irks me most is their promise of sending it the Monday after the event (heck, that's when they cashed my check!). AND one of the owners is a skating coach, so she should know full well how important it is to have feedback before competing again.
I've only called once and they never returned my calls. I should do it again. It's just that things have been so hectic since I'm also trying to orchestrate a cross-country move for law school, that something this tiny has gotten put on the back-burner a bit.
