I thought I'd just put this up for last minute communications about PCAS, which is this Saturday and Sunday.

I was at the rink this morning and was told by the freestyle session manager that the 6:30am freestyle session being offered by the Culver Ice Arena on Saturday is being shortened to a 45 minute session (not an hour). So if you are planning to skate that session, make sure you are there right at 6:30 to maximize your ice time. That is the only session offered by the rink that morning.

Now, a few hours later, the story is changing and I'm hearing that it's the *Sunday* morning special FS session that is being shortened to just 45 minutes. . . So I'd suggest that if you are doing either the Saturday or Sunday early morning session, get there right when it starts in case that's the one that only goes for 45 minutes!

I just want to wish you good luck to all you guys who are going to Pacific Coast Adult Sectionals.

Special shout out to doubletoe on her Champ Adult Gold event!!! (And Nick Chou too if he's competing in his. I've heard he's NOT this year... but I'm not sure... oh! And Marcos, Garry, etc gang too!!!) Daisies, work that "judges 'game show' smile and wave!!!" :P http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/103.gif

Oh, God! Too many people I want to wish well... but if I didn't mention you, doesn't mean I'm not thinkin' of 'ya this weekend...

LOL, jazzpants you crack me up! I am not judging this year -- I am competing! Eek! Just Interp, though.

Here is the dealio on the Saturday and Sunday practice sessions. This IS the final word -- as of today, anyway. The SATURDAY walk-on session has been shortened by 15 minutes. It is now from 6:30am to 7:15am.

The SUNDAY session remains the same, from 7am to 8am.

Good luck, all!

WHEW!!! I'm SOOOO glad!!! I've heard he wasn't skating much this year and the source wasn't sure that he was competing this year or not...

GOOOOOOO, NICK!!!! http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/sportlich/n030.gif

mikawendy: Something like that.... (The story is that the judges usually just go, sit on their chairs and watch the other skaters warming up and ignore the announcer when s/he announces which judges are judging the current event. Daisies is the only person that actually does this "smile and wave" thing when they announce her name. It's like she's on a game show and she's one of the contestants. Several of us started cheering from then on when we've noticed this...)

Yes, Nick has been so busy this year he's only been able to skate about an hour per week. Although he's not in peak form, you wouldn't know it looking at him land his doubles in that one hour of practice! (If I didn't like him so much I'd hate his guts, LOL!)

Awww, you guys all know each other! ... I know I'm barely above lurker status around here, but it would be nice to actually meet some of you. It's a rarity that I get to talk to real live adult figure skaters. :) My practice session is tomorrow at 3pm and I will be wearing my lucky outfit (magenta velvet skirt, lime green t-shirt). Also, if you are feeling charitable and skating on the Saturday morning freestyle, stick around and watch my sincerest attempt at a Salchow/Toeloop, during the Ladies No-Test FS. I'm at the point with my program where it either goes really right, or really, really wrong, so it should be entertaining no matter what!
Good Luck to ALL!!!!

Jeanmarie: Good luck at your No Test event!

I sadly won't be at this year's Sectionals either  , since I'm trying to pay off a lot of bills this year. But I hopefully will be well ready for my Bronze debut later this year at a local comp...which will lead up to my first AN competition. :D

I do love the you tube posted of your programs! Say Hi to jeanmarie for us!

Daisies: Good luck to you too! Maybe you could do a little wave just prior to starting your program? How cute. giggle

Jeanmarie: How exciting to be participating. Will look forward to hearing how the no test level went for you! I have the salchow/toe loop in my program too. Similar to you, it either really goes well..or really does not...Hoping yours will be solid and there when it counts.

Have fun, and skate great.

Remember, you can't control what the other skaters do, and you can't control what the judges think - all you can do is go out there, skate your best, relax and enjoy it!

Go pedonskates too! (She's not logging on much, but I figured I've add her on there!)

Side note: Jazzpants reads the Championship list of competitors and is amused that she knows about half the women in Master Ladies, skates with one of the Masters Men (Ted), 6 out of the list in Gold Ladies, and all but one of the Gold Guys. (And skates with 3 of them on a regular basis too!!! ) I also skate with one of the Adult Pairs too!!!)

Also interesting is that Carl Nelson is ice dancing with Elizabeth this year!!! (How do they manage the distance factor??!?!?! 8O )

Thanks Jazzpants! My axels were there on practice ice yesterday, so something worked!

I heard that one of the Ch. Masters Ladies is going to run the LA Marathon on Sunday. Wow, she must be one tough lady   I know how I feel the day after competition and I wouldn't want to run a marathon.

Also interesting is that Carl Nelson is ice dancing with Elizabeth this year!!! (How do they manage the distance factor??!?!?! 8O )

Carl has been coming down from Alaska about once a month and they've been hooking up for an intensive two or so days to skate together. It's been interesting trying to skate with 4 dance couples all working on different dances on FS ice with three kids who are working on doubles and triples.. and little ol' me, fighting it out with BI 3turns and camel spins! Fortunately, those can be done in a corner away from the crowds. Also interesting is Molly Johnson just returned from two weeks in India... she and Kia practiced for the first time together again on Wednesday, one more session on Thursday, then headed to southern California Thursday night to prepare for competition.

Good luck to everyone at PCAS!!!

The first three events are from memory, but I'm pretty sure they're correct:

Championship Masters Men
1. Bryan Rabin
2. Ted Gradman

Championship Masters Ladies
1. Natalie Shaby
2. Amber Van Wyk
3. Stephanie Ewing
4. Laurel Combs

Championship Gold Men
1. Nick Chou
2. Gilbert Chiang
3. Andy Schell
4. Randy Miguez

As for Championship Gold Ladies, I didn't stay for the results, and someone had taken them down this morning when I got there for practice ice! But this is what I heard from another person -- it is WAY unconfirmed:

1. Carolee Purdee
2. Ninotchka Aschow
3. Lauren Day (our very own DoubleToe -- yay!)
4. Judi Madey

I am soooooooooooo not positive about those last results, so take them with a grain of salt. I am positive about Lauren though. :)

I still need to fix the axel setup (I landed it backward on one foot but apparently hopped out of it or something). Also, the double sal still isn't quite there, but hey, I landed it and just put a hand down instead of landing with my blade stuck in the ice and crumpling, so that's progress, right? LOL! I'm just so thrilled to have qualified, and if I can fix those problems and the other little messy spots in the next 5 weeks I'll be happy no matter how I place at Nationals!

Okay guys! Any word on where the next PCAS is gonna be? Is it still in California?
Nothing official yet, but it should be in the Northwest. It rotates sections each year, and since it was in Central (Oakland) in 2006 and Southwest (L.A.) in 2007, it should be hosted by a Northwest Pacific club in 2008. I suppose it will depend on who submitted a bid!

icedancer2
03-09-2007, 12:10 PM
AFAIK, the Oregon Skating Council bid on it and are hosting next year's PCAS. I'm not sure where it will be (given the somewhat tenuous future of one of our best rinks) but it will be somewhere in the Portland metro area.

At least this is what I've heard from members of the Oregon skating council who are talking it up to us locals!

I look forward to meeting some of you there next year (although I have no plans to compete myself... unless they put on some special dance events for people who can only skate on one foot or something).
