Last week, i strained my rt. groin area, and gave it about 2 days off. Can't figure out how i did it because i usually stretch. It is still not better.

A few years ago i did this and ignored it for months and it became chronic instead of acute and i lost about 4-5 months off the ice because of it. I know its not as bad as that one i did several years ago, but wondered about any home treatments or advice to prevent trying to get to a p.t.

I will probably have to call my insurance provider to find out the scoop, but would rather try some at-home stuff first. Any exercises or therapy ideas? Thanks!

Flying camels often hurt my groin. Rest and small amounts of heat usually fix it for me. If you stretch it, it will hurt more, but don't eschew all motion otherwise you'll become stiff.

so if that stuff is called differently in American, the cream might be called after the plant.

And I know the use manual says it's for burns and wounds but somehow, it soaks through the skin anyway. I had a swollen and painful and immovable and powerless shoulder joint and it helped even for the joint.

Naklofen cream also helps for joints, dunno about groins. It's prolly not over the counter though. There's diclofenac in it.

Arnica cream? And the usual ice/heat and rest (ice is quicker, heat is nicer!).

HeHe do that a couple of times and you'll start wearing compression short - they really do help! Even scratch spins and 3 turns can make it worse, you use those muscles all the time. Be careful stretching it as you can easily rip the already injured muscle once it is injured, On The Other Hand:

I had a nagging groin pull for 6 months and one day when it was better I really pulled into a scratch spin and it ripped (yuch felt it go just like deboning a chicken) and hurt so much that I was nauseated and could barely walk. 3 weeks later it was completely GONE, except for a 2 foot long bruise over the entire back of my thigh. I asked an orthopedist friend about this and he says that the hamstrings are put together like a feather - there is a central strand of connective tissue and small bunches of muscles radiate out to the sides anterior and posterior. If one bunch is too short, it gets pulled and keeps getting pulled. The surgical treatment is to simply cut the attachment point and let it heal up longer (similar to the treatment for tennis elbow). When you rip it, it can now grow back at a better length. So if the same muscle keeps getting pulled you may want to see the orthopod. FWIW

I think the worst injury I had was from warming up in the hotel room - a groin injury that took the better part of a year to heal.

Thanks that reminds me, once I got limber, I injured myself several times stretching. In my experience the danger time is when you are already tired or even if recovered but already worked out once that day. My words of caution (especially if you are farely limber) are to 1) NEVER do buddy stretching; 2) go into deep stretches with the muscle tightened, not relaxed. This is especially important if using gravity for more oomph (eg splits) or can't help but bouncing or are trying to do the hurry up stretch. Once in position, then you can relax the muscle to deepen the stretch. http://www.cosgan.de/images/midi/verschiedene/f040.gif
