My DS (8) is getting ready for his first comp (ISI - he's FS 3) and is skating to the "Top Gun Anthem" and I am kind of :frus: about what he is going to wear at comp - he is kind of self-conscious so whatever we decide on will have to be "cool" and not too over-the-top - the obvious costuming ideas (flight suit or flight jacket) would be just too bulky - and I'm leaning towards black pants/nice black T-shirt type shirt (i.e. maverick black sheep kind of theme, I guess!) - will that work OK? I keep wondering if there is anything to do to dress that idea up in an understated sort of way  can't really come up with anything though. Thought it wouldn't hurt to see if any of you had any ideas, though? Thanks!
DS had an AWESOME practice this morning with 2 of the best run-throughs we have ever seen . . . he did flub the transition on the change foot spin once, but didn't let it throw him off at all, he just tried it again at the end and nailed it that time (when the adrenalin is running high, he usually does have a little bit of extra time at the end of his music - if he needs to re-do anything, he can do it then, if not, he just finishes up with a plain spin.)
I also may have found his "magic feather" - (remember Dumbo and his magic feather?) - in order to calm him down and keep him from rushing through everything, he thinks of "warm PANCAKES." (sounds silly, but that's what he came up when I asked him this morning - what relaxes you? thank of something soothing to you) As it turns out, that's also a pretty good "ROUND" imagery to get him in the moods for spin entries and his salchow!! whatever works, right??!
