View Full Version : Adult Nationals 2007 Schedule Update

Please forward to everyone you know going to ANs . . .
The referee has told the LOC that all events will indeed be taking place on the days that were listed on the tentative schedule. So make your hotel/plane reservations with confidence!
When we get actual times for events, they will be updated on the Adult Nationals website. (http://www.adultnationals2007.org)
Keep in mind that we have a large turnout for Chicago this year (wheee!!), therefore some of the days will run very long. So you may be competing very early or very late in the day. However, we thought this preferable to moving events to different days, since some skaters have already made their travel plans.
Cheers!

Thanks for the info, Alison. 8-)
(And so much for the Adult Nationals chorus, "It's getting smaller." ;)
Which goes to show, when AN is in an easy-to-reach location, the numbers will be higher.)

And speaking of AN locations, I know of at least a half dozen people or more who tell me that they don't go to AN every year, but if it's ever at Lake Placid, they'll go...
Alison, thanks for the update and thanks for keeping events on the days planned!

Some of us intend to go to AN, no matter where it's at, once we are able to!

I'm dying for it to be at Lake Placid. I have serious anxiety issues with planes. I'm really hoping for 08!
Glad to hear that turnout is strong this year! Perhaps that will inspire organizers to stick to well known locations.

I hate to say it, but I am kind of Meh on Lake Placid. I was there once for a synchro competition and it's a gorgeous location and really beautiful, but it's not someplace I'd want to go again and again. I like to go to warmer climates in the wintertime, that's probably why! :)

I'm meh on LP too, only because I've been to every AN and it's been there four times already. I will continue to go no matter where it is, of course, but I like it better when it's somewhere I've never been ... like CHICAGO!!! :)

Well, I've gone to every AN since I started skating again, so...since 2002, it's nice when they have the event in a big city but I'll always go regardless of where it is...even though southern california would be nice.
I love Lake Placid. It's like a vacation when we have Nationals there. We go for a week and rent a house on the lake. I'm looking forward to returning. It would also be fun to have one local so I don't have to travel. Other than that, I'd love to go to Seattle, Maine or maybe Orlando (warmth sounds good right now).

I'm for warm weather places too! Easier on the joints!!! :P
Yes, I would love it to be in Southern California too, since it's much cheaper to fly in...

Yeah, what's the deal with none of our So.Cal clubs bidding on AN???!
It's not hard to put a bid together. You just have to find someone to do it. It was my idea to have it in Chicago, and I wasn't even a member of a midwest club yet since I had just moved there from Maryland. But I got the right group of adults together who I knew would be interested and we approached the clubs, who were also interested (and I switched to a Chicago club, lol!). Then we all just took a section of the bid and got it done. So if you're a member of a SoCal club, just take the initiative. I'm sure the adult skating community would love to go there in April!

Yeah, what's the deal with none of our So.Cal clubs bidding on AN???!I asked the same question about our No. Cal rinks too, doubletoe. The answer I got was it's a combination of not having more than one sheet of ice and "club politics" (particularly with the ONE rink that can handle an event such as AN.) Whether that's true or not... well, I'm not gonna bother to speculate.
But short of having it in my neck of the woods, I would LOVE having it in So. Cal.!!! 8-)

I just started looking into hotels and the listed ones are filling up! The cheaper "Country Inn and Suites" is Booked FULL for Nats....
I Hope my event stays as listed! I just booked everything! Yikes!

Yes, the hotels are filling up. The AmeriSuites deadline has been extended to March 19th (just got that tip yesterday and have to update the website) and they have room, so try them. But many of the hotels are full, or almost full!

Does the rink have to have two ice surfaces or just one, but with another rink nearby? Come to think of it, we held Pacific Southwest Regionals at our rink with just one ice surface, and they've definitely got more entries than Adult Nationals. Hmmm. . . !

Oh, and going back to the original topic of this thread, does anyone know if there is going to be a qualifying round for Gold III?
If there is no QR, do we skate on Wednesday (when the QR's are scheduled) or Thursday (when the FR is scheduled)?

Two in one building with a third for practice ice across the parking lot. There must be two rinks is the requirement

Tim: call them.
First you ask the distance to the rink, when it's clearly posted on the hotel pdf form available on the site. Then you wonder if they have shuttle service. If you want to know, its not that hard to find these things out. Just look where the information is.
Sorry to rant, but the website is pretty damn user friendly ... past ANs didn't even HAVE dedicated sites ... and I'm getting the dumbest emails from people asking the most mundane questions because they are too lazy to look it up.

If some of you haven't booked your hotels yet, try Priceline---I got a 4 star hotel for $60/night! I'm a little further from the rink, but it's a fairly direct route.
--I called the Marriott & the Country Inn & Suites--both are booked up. And the Quality Inn gave me a higher rate than advertised ($84.99).

Call the hotels directly, not their 1-800 national reservation lines (which will not have any more rooms at the group rate).
I'm about to cancel a room I have at the official hotel so at least one will open up soon - I booked at two places while deciding ;)

Yes, I agree!!! In fact, the website is user friendly enough that it made my decision to not go pretty easy. (Just couldn't afford it! I just booked the Marriott two days ago but they only had King rooms available.....maybe now those are gone too? I also had to try 3 different rental car dealers to get a car.....I do like the fact that the practice Ice is sooo close......It will make things much nicer than Dallas (sorry Dallas, my first Nationals was not a great experience outside of my Gold Medal Performance;) )

SO--a question about practice ice:
The only other big comp I've done was Lake Placid (dance). There (& they told me at all qual. competitions), you had a practice for each of your events, every day before and including the day of your event. So you always skated the same day of your competition earlier in the day, and you had practice every day before--a separate practice for each of your events. Does AN work the same way?
And another question: I was surprised to see at LP that everyone practiced in full costume/makeup/hair.....of course these are diva dancers & they actually charge admission to watch......so what do people wear for AN practices?
LoopLoop
02-25-2007, 11:52 AM
At AN practices, people wear a wide variety of things; I wear the same thing I do for practice at home. Either leggings and a tank top with a fleece, or else a practice dress, depending on what I feel like that day.
In Kansas City 2005, a lot of people wore their competition outfits for the official (20-minute) warmup, but I stuck with my practice clothes for that too.

I think according to the competition announcment and registration forms for AN 2007, you get one official 20-minute practice on the day of your event that is separate from the 6-minute warmup for the actual event. All other practice ice you have to sign up for, and I think that the preregistration form was due a while ago. You can also sign up for practice ice during the competition, but I think it's on a first come, first serve basis.

Any clue when the final schedule may be coming out? Just trying to plan... I live nearby-ish, so I will be making my travel arrangements based upon when I actually skate.
Also, someone asked I think about Bronze II, whether there will be a qualifying round, and if NOT, whether the event would take place on Wednesday or Friday. I'd be curious to know that too.
Thanks!

Final schedule is usually posted after the last qualifier (in this case Mids) so that anyone who qualifies and would like to withdraw from their open event (if they signed up) has the opportunity to do so.

I just spoke with the receptionist from Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, O'Hare South, their shuttle only provide rides from and to the airport. She said they will provide local taxi information upon arrival.

I wasn't sure where to ask this, but this is as good a thread as any. Anyhow, I hear that adult nationals allows spectators to throw things on the ice after the performance. Is this true? This will be my first AN and I have never been to a competition before where things are thrown on the ice. How does this work? When each skater finishes do they then have to pick it up if there is anything? Is there any oversight to make sure the ice is cleared?

Absolutely! That's one of the best things about ANs! :D
Once the skater is done with their program, you can throw things on the ice (but nothing like live flowers where there could be leftover debris) and the skater (or sometimes we even get sweepers!) picks up the items. Generally, the spectators keep an eye out for any missed items and will yell to let you know.

We are trying to get sweepers, at least for times when the kids aren't in school.
Both rinks have netting around about 80% of the rink, and they will not take it down. We asked. So if you want to throw stuff, just make sure you're sitting in the area where the netting isn't.
And by the way, I've had several emails the past few days about the actual times for the schedule. We won't get that from the referee for a few weeks yet, since a) Mids aren't over, and b) the referee is in Europe working on another event. So please stop asking me. Once I know the schedule it will be up on the ANs site almost immediately. The tentative schedule is correct as to actual days that your event will be happening, so please make travel plans around that.

I guess we are now just waiting for group assignments.
