Senior Ladies LP Notes

Ordered by placement in the LP...

1. Stephanie Roth - 3T/2T, 2S/2T, 2Z, fly-camel, 2A, 1F, spiral sequence, layback, 3T, deathdrop/sit, split, 1A, camel/layback/back-camel/backsit/Y. Had the most oomph amongst the programs of the night, my choice for no. 1 as well.
Ordinals 1 1 1 2 1 1 1 1 2

2. Megan Doyle - fly-camel, split, 2A/2T, 3S, circular ftwk, 2Z, deathdrop/sit, spiral sequence, 2L, 3T(fall), ? (can't figure out what I wrote means), 3S, walley/inside-axel, 1A, camel/donut/backsit/Y, layback. Very nice presentation, my choice for no. 3 though.
Ordinals 2 3 3 3 6 4 2 4 3

3. Darya Yael Zuravicky - 3L, 3F(fall), 1Z, 3S, layback, 3T(fall), 2A, fly-camel, split, ftwk, spiral sequence, foot-to-head-spin, camel/layback/back-camel/foot-to-head. Harder jumps, so I would have had her ahead of Megan, and presentation was good too.
Ordinals 4 4 2 1 2 2 3 5 5

4. Krissa Miller - 2A, 3L(fall), fly-camel, 2F, split, 2Z, camel/catch-foot-camel, straight-line-ftwk, 2A-steps-2S, layback, 3S/2T(turn out), spiral sequence, 2Z, camel/sit/layback/backsit/scratch.
Ordinals 3 2 4 4 4 3 5 2 1

5. Netta Rizea - 2A, 3T, f-camel, 3S(fall), layback, spiral sequence, 2L, 2F/0.5L/2T, ina bauer, 3S(underroated?), 2Z, 2A.
Ordinals 7 6 6 6 3 5 4 3 4

6. Lauren Thomas - 3Z, 2L, 2F, camel/layback/backsit/Y(low leg), fly-camel, 2S, 3T(fall), spiral sequence, layback, 3T, 1A-steps-2A, circular ftwk, split, deathdrop/sit/scratch. She should have been 5th I think - the presentation wasn't as well thought out.
Ordinals 5 5 5 5 7 6 6 7 6

Roman Serov - was there for senior men practices, pulled out. Possibly injured himself attempted a 4-loop at the end of the practice (almost complete on rotation I think). Tries a couple of 4-toes as well (almost compelete on rotation but not 100% there yet). Beautiful spreadeagle into 3-axel, a couple of 3-loops, 3-lutz, not sure what else.

I did watch but no notes for the SP for Novice ladies - standing room only in that other rink, was kinda hard to do anything.

Gonna go today to watch though. ;)

Junior Men's SP at Mid-Atlantics

In order of skating

Joseph Lynch -- does not have a lot of speed although he was fairly precise throughout. He stepped out of a DA; did a TT/DT and a planned
Double Lutz. The music was nominal and so was his musical sense. He
did do a good circular step sequence. Spins were okay. 3.8/4.3

Patrick Skyler Rodgers – tall African American skater who was
expressive. Big POP on what I imagine was a triple Salchow; clean
planned Double Lutz; and a nice DA. He had good speed, but his edging
was not similarly good. Reasonably good flying camel. His arms are
occasionally wild. Fun to watch. 3.5/4.5

Adam Kaplan -- Lots of Michael Weiss derivative arm movements he
could have just chucked. Simple black outfit. Opened with a DA;
tried a triple Lutz but fell (appeared to be where the combo was
supposed to be) and he followed that up by popping what I assume was
to be a triple Loop into a single. Nice line and he has some style.
His straightline step sequence began well but half way down the ice
it began to crawl. Spins were okay, and the circular step sequence
was too simple. 3.3/4.7

Mark McLeod – a bit too cloned from Ilya Kulik. He opened by
telegraphing his combo, a TT/DT which was done nicely; there was a
slight inner edge before his Double Lutz take off which he landed;
and a well done DA. The fly part of the flying camel was weak, but
the camel part was good. He had, to this point the best flow over the
ice of the skaters. He eneded with a so-so combo spin. I did not make
any notes on the footwork sequences which leads me to believe they
were fine and without any obvious problems. He is tall and willowy
and presents a nice picture on the ice. He ended with the pose kulik
used to end his 1998 Olympic short program. The program was clean.
4.2/4.9

Themi Leftheris -- a tall skater who has not grown into his body yet.
Skates a bit like Sheperd Clark in that respect. He open with a nifty
knee spin on the ice that created a nice look. First jump was a
Double Lutz which was only slightly two-footed.; he got all the way arounbd on a triple loop but then turned out and somehow did a double loop; he singled the axel. He did a spread eagle with some speed and good line. One of the spins was poor a combo with too many changes of
foot for its own good. The straight line step sequence was fair and to top it all off the ref's whistle blew before he could end.3.5/4.5

Adam Aronowitz – A young skater and short in height. He won theshort program in the warm up by doing two things (1) while his flight was busy at the very beginning stroking he did a really good blur spin at center ice, and (2) when the flight was aimlessly finishing up he did a good Ruhesque variation spin at center ice.

He started off with a clever if not especially fast circular step sequence. Triple Flip/DT; DA with a landing that I didn't like; then a solo Triple Lutz. All the jumps lacked height. Spins were all
good, especially the Ruh-like position in the combo. Even with the best content, I put him second (all nine judges had him first) because there was something unmistakeably "Novice Men's"
aboutthis program, and it was not just his height and age. It lacked
power, mature attention to skating with the music. 4.3/4.7

My Placements:

1. Mark McLeod 4.2 4.9 (Judges: 2nd)
2. Adam Aronowitz 4.3 4.7 (1st )
3. Joseph Lynch 3.8 4.3 (4th)
4. Themi Leftheris 3.6 4.5 (3rd)
5. Patrick S. Rodgers 3.5 4.5 (6th)
6. Adam Kaplan 3.3 4.7 (7th)

Didn't see the guy who came 5th.

Mid-Atlantic Senior ladies Free Skate
Some very brief remarks on the first flight

Nicole Adamoyurka – She managed a DA and a Double Lutz, and tried a TT which was WAY short of rotation (maybe even more than half a turn) She fell once on a DA near the end. She needs to stand up straight. She presented everything in a calm light manner that was pleasant to watch. 3.3/3.7

Netta Rizea – She did a triple toe which I am pretty sure was clean, though if so barely; and DA at the beginning. After that she had one fall, some doubles, and a triple Salchow attempt which was underrotated by three quarters of a turn. She skated to Star Wars and the same parts of the score I have made fun of elsewhere in comments on Min Zhang. The program had much less finesse than spirit. 3.9/4.4

Dawn Cassell – She skated deliberately through an array of double jumps and even stood a DA attempt which was not far enough around to count. She needs to relax a bit and do something besides the jumps. Her doubles are only okay. But she's trying to make up for quality with quanitity and all the other stuff correspondingly suffers. 3.0/3.3

Kerri Travers – this was another program riddled with marginal double jumps. I like simple blue outfits and she had one on. She tried to skate to Verdi (The music used by Radka and Rene in Prague in '95) and it was not a match. 3.2/3.5

Sakura Fava – her basic skating was actually alright, but she insisted on doing as many marginal doubles as she could in under 4 minutes and ten seconds. She fell on both DA attempts. She also became fatigued in the last munute – yet another reason to work on stroking. 3.0/3.6

FINAL FLIGHT

Daria Zuravicky – Same woman who has been representing Israel at worlds for a couple of years. Her Dad told me she was 17. She opened with the only UpperTier triple jump completed in the event – a good triple loop. She fell on a triple Flip, and popped a Lutz I assume was meant to be a triple. She had clean triple Salchow. She badly stumbled out of a TT which got all the way around, and might, might, have touched down on her DA. I think a simplier dress would have helped. She's intense but introverted. She maintained her speed throughout. Overall it was what you might expect at this point in the season. 4.4/4.6

Stephanie Roth – she had the crowd going from the start. My first time seeing her skate. She has plunk. She did two TT's and one good DA (the other she singled) and an assortment of solid doubles. The program as a construct was better than Daria's and it was delivered with a more open sense. 4.6/4.8

Monica Sher – She wore a brown dress with a creamy white stripe across it like Commander Worf's shash on Star Trek. Just when you think you've seen the ugliest skating dress of all time ….She jumps clockwise. She did a clean double Flip and Lutz, and two-footed or underrotated pretty much everything else including her triple salchow attempt. The choreography was aimless. 4.0/4.5

Krissa Miller – another tall, ballet body type with a hair bun. Not so hot posture just the same. She landed a DA, and stumbled out of a triple salchow. She fell on a double loop but stood all her other doubles including another DA which had a slight two-foot landing. Her final piece of music was Nessum Dorma and she did not triumph. 4.2/4.5

Lauren Thomas – the judges dumped this program big time and I could not find a single person milling around afterwards who liked it half as much as I did. She had speed and flow. She messed up a double Lutz at the beginning and then did double loop, flip, sal. Near the end she tried a triple toe and fell, got back up tried it again and landed it. Then she did a DA. I thought it was pretty good given what she was up against. 4.4/4.5

Megan Doyle – In contrast to Thomas this program started off okay and got steadily worse. She did DA and tripe salchow; then doule lutz and then loop. And then it was fall on a TT, a way underrotated triple salchow attempt and she singled her last DA. It lacked speed and flow. 4.2/4.6
