Yay, Kimmie!!! Poor Alissa, she fell 3 times in the LP. Hopefully, she's gotten it out of her system before Worlds.

Actually, Alissa only fell twice and had a time violation for the third deduction. Too bad! Agree that I hope she got it out of her system for Worlds!!!

I am all for the American Ladies winning, and I was not at all worried about Rochette being in first. She is a horrible choker. Which is sad, because she looks so strong on the ice.

I was irritated that Emily lost again due to Emily! She missed the two combinations, which I am sure was the difference between first and second.

I am not so angry when a skater is beaten by a better skater. But I think both Emily and Alissa are the better skaters. Unfortunately, they make just enough mistakes to keep them from winning. :frus:

I am not so angry when a skater is beaten by a better skater.I love it when everyone skates clean programs. It's so much more exciting than having a competitor blow their first jump combo of the program.

I wonder how many points she lost because of it...She repeated both the lutz and flip jumps without doing them in combination, so does she miss points she otherwise would have gotten if she had done them in combination, or is there an actual deduction from base scores for those jumps? I know that you cannot repeat jumps unless they are done a second time in combination, but unsure of what the penalty is...
Anyone know the rules?

Not only does she miss the points from the extra double jump(s) tacked on for the combo, but CoP calls the landed solo jump as a missed sequence. That is, the solo triple gets multiplied by 0.8.

Thus her second triple flip, after the half-way mark (10% bonus) is calculated as:
[5.5(3flip value)x0.8]1.1 = 4.4(1.1) = 4.84

I like Kimmie's skating. I like that she remains calm, yet is competitive and can pull off the jumps when the pressure is on. Alissa is a beautiful skater, but whenever a skater repeatedly cannot put together a clean performance, I have a difficult time enjoying them. As for Emily, just not a fan. I think she is better this year, but I just don't enjoy her skating, and personally think that Kimmie is a better skater (not just because I prefer her).

I think this was the first time that I looked at Kimmie performing and thought "okay, I see something there". Her expression seemed a lot better.

Having said that, I still do not think America will medal in any discipline this year at Worlds. I hope and pray that I am wrong. If we do medal, I think it will be Evan getting the bronze. Again, I hope I am wrong!

Well, all I can say is that I hope Kimmie improves...she has nice edges, and maybe when she gets through this growth spurt?

I like Emily's skating -- she has a number of spectacular qualities, her classic layback spin, her Bielman spiral, her edges are very solid, and her jumps are improving (she has pretty good technique IMHO). There is just something about her, an authenticity and lack of gile in her presence and a full commitment that I enjoy. I love her 2 axel -- its like Sarah's was, very, very solid, great runout.

I don't mind the falls if the skater is like Alissa! To me, it is awesome when skaters who are really great skate clean -- like when Chen and Zhau skated clean at that worlds, when she hurt her ankle -- that was just amazing, a great feeling. If Alissa ever skates clean, it will be like that.

But when skaters who are really only just clean, who do not stand out, skate clean again, I am just bored.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but that is truly how I feel.

I though Kimmie was great - especially after the short. She knew she hadn't done well, but she pulled herself together, and she didn't for one moment look like she was thinking 'I've already lost, why bother trying?'. She's solid under her jumps and good in her spins, but her composure sets her apart from the others. Emily skated fantasically in the free though, and she totally deserved second.
