Lipinski on CNN Headline News 09/14

I was watching CNN Headline News this morning and there was a story on Tara Lipinski and deep vein thrombosis. The story is online as well.

From what I can gather from the article, it doesn't say that she developed deep vein thrombosis, just that she (as with every other orthopedic patient) was at risk for developing it after her hip surgery. Because of this, she has become a national spokeperson for the blood thinner medicine, and for awareness of the risks. Did I read it right?

My uncle had knee surgery, and developed blood clots that went to his lungs. He was in intensive care and nearly died from it. A "simple" knee surgery turned into an 82-day hospital stay. Scary stuff indeed. I didn't realize that 80% of the patients developed blood clots! Wow!
