well I had a first yesterday - couldn't hold an edge to save my life, kept slipping and catching. Looked at blades and couldn't find anything wrong but it kept happening! So I went to sit down thinking my body was under alien control and checked my blade screws -all ok? Finally I was running my hand along the edges checking for some new major gouge when I felt a little tug. Digging away at it I scraped off a thin piece of aluminum foil that was adhered and perfectly camoflaged on my blade. Later coach asks why I looked so shaky

It's a well-known secret that I rarely wear my rubber guards, so I'm always careful where I walk off-ice. Last weekend, I had the heel of my blade skid out from under me on the ice unexpectedly.

I lifted my foot to see what had happened and found that I had stepped on a Skittle candy (a fruity-M&M). Someone had dropped a bunch, the wet ice and movement took off the colored outsides, so there were invisible (white) Skittles all over the place. Thankfully, the Staff cleared the ice for a resurfacing right away, so the problem didn't last long and no one got hurt.

A tiny magnet was following me around for a while.

Last week when I got on the ice, I didn't have a RFI edge - it kept sliding around. I looked at my blade and it had a piece of white hockey tape stuck to the bottom. It must've been on the ice already, because I always wear my guards off ice.

gum =-0 Someone had thrown their gum on the ice and I had skated into it. I was skating along one moment and sitting on my tush the next. ugh.

I lifted my foot to see what had happened and found that I had stepped on a Skittle candy (a fruity-M&M). I once had back-to-back classes at the Bracknell Adult Open, and, what's worse, was drawn in the last warm-up group in the first class, and the first in the second! However, the referee was aware of my problem and agreed to hold the class for a few moments while I changed (including a serious make-up job, as these were artistic classes, one solo and one with a partner!). I rushed into the changing-rooms and got changed very quickly.... only to find, when I got on the ice for the warm-up, that something was wrong with my blade. Husband checked it - and found I'd trodden on a jelly-baby!!!!

Scary moment, but after the jelly-baby was removed, no problem. But the moral is ALWAYS wear your guards, no matter how much of a hurry you are in!

Not on my blade, but one time I had a tissue, put it down for a second on the boards, briefly chatted with someone as we waited for some ice dancers to pass, and then couldn't find the tissue anywhere on the boards, the ice around me, or behind the boards. The person I chatted with definitely didn't take it, so I never figured out what happened to it. It was the oddest thing! Luckily, it was the very end of the session, so if it was somewhere on the ice that I couldn't see and no one seemed to trip on anything in that general area before the zam came out!

I had gum on my blades too! except I had steped off the ice to re-tie my skates and someone had left chewed gum on the ground. x[ the next thing you know I was slipping around like I'd had never skated in my life! Luckily the gum froze when I went on the ice, so it was easy to remove.

I was lucky that the one time I stepped on gum I had my blade guards on. (Of course, it was still disgusting getting the gum off my blade guards though. :x )

My gum experience was sorta frozen too but not really. Disgusting huh? This is one shared experience that our blades and us could have done without.

I once spent 1/2 a lesson with some sort of plastic wrapper piece on my blades. Spins aren't my strong point anyways, so neither coach nor I suspected that something other than myself was causing all the wonkiness in my spins that day.
