cost of synth ice

Hate to beat this idea to death, but what the heck. On the web sites I have seen there is no pricing info. I am actually interested in trying synth ice if it is not prohibitively expensive and there is someplace I can go before making an actual investment. Obviously it costs more than a pair of rockered inlines, which I bought sight unseen and unskated.

Well, I could contact the US-based co. Maybe I will. But has anyone already done this and know about pricing. I do not think I will be ready to actually buy for a couple yrs as we just bought an investment property.

There was a place near me that opened an outdoor synthetic ice rink (so it could stay open longer into the spring). One of the little skaters at my rink went there for a birthday party. First of all she said it was impossible to do anything and second her blades had to be sharpened after skating there. I saw the blades afterwards and they looked really bad. I wouldn't go near the stuff, not worth it.

I looked into it last summer and the cost (in Canadian dollars) for a 30x50 sheet was going to be around $5,000 for the plastic sheeting. Then you have to have a proper base for it which will be at least the same again.

The manufacturers of synthetic ice work through distributors so you have to get the pricing from your nearest distributor.

I was thinking of skating this summer (on synthetic ice) for the shows...and was told:
1. I would have to get substitute blades for the shows
2. These blades would be sharpened every 2 hours on the stuff
3. It's phenominal exercise for your legs!!!! and your jumps improve a lot

Also heard that the 15x20' surface cost about $15,000-$20,000 (roughly) 8O
