Time limit for ISI spotlight or interpretive

Hey ya'll, i am trying to get the facts on the time limit for either of these programs. I was told it is 1:30. Is there an overage? 10 seconds beyond this? I was going to consult with the manual which is kept at the rink, but it is missing temporarily.

It depends what level it is. One minute for Delta and below. One minute, thirty seconds FS 1 through FS 5. Two minutes FS 6 and above. There is a 10 seconds leeway, and there is never a deduction in ISI for the music being too short.

ISI Freestyle 1 through 3 Spotlight is 1 minute with up to 10 seconds over allowed. Freestyle 4 up to ?(I'm not sure what level) is 1:30 for spotlight. I cut a lot of the music for my coach's student and time at my rink's annual ISI Competition, and that is what it has been - unless ISI changed it for 2007.

Interpretative for those levels is supposed to be 1 minute, but that is up to the rink - I have had anywhere from 50 seconds to over 2 minutes! Since it is the rink's responsibility to cut the music, there is no time deduction for skaters.

The level is FS4.

there is a deduction in ISI for skating over and I believe, music that is too long. I think you lose 2 points on their scale.

Interpretive: the rink or club provides the music everyone has to interpret. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHEN IT'S GOING TO END! Count the number of stanzas or something, but finishing with the music really helps your score on Interpretive.



Spotlight Events Program Lengths: (Eff. 1/1/2004)

Pre-Alpha to Freestyle 3: 1 minute
Freestyle 4-5: 1 min, 30 secs
Freestyle 6-10: 2 minutes.Timing and Duration:
Timing starts with any action after the music stars (even if the feet are not moving). Timing stops when the skaters stop moving completely. There is a 10 second leeway in effect as follows:

Judging stops at 10 seconds over the prescribed time.
If skater skates 11-14 seconds over the prescribed time, the duration grade is 8.0.
If skater skates 14+ seconds over the prescribed time, the duration grade is 5.0.
There is no penalty for skating under the prescribed time.Mel's right: you automatically lose 2 points on your Duration score if you exceed the 10-second leeway. The most you can get is 10 points; the penalty is a grade of 8 points in that category. If you exceed 15 seconds, you lose half of your duration grade, a 5-point deduction.

By the way, if you're using props, you have only 30 seconds to get the props onto the ice and in position. The penalty is a 2.0 deduction under "Costume and Prop" scoring. (I've worked that stopwatch in judging - if you have big props, practice the setup as well.)

Effective 1/1/94: Skaters are now limited as to the maneuvers that may be performed during their Spotlight programs:

Skaters in Alpha-Delta levels are permitted to perform maneuvers at the FS 1 level or lower.
Skaters in FS 1-4 levels are permitted to perform maneuvers from the FS 1-4 levels or lower, and any uncaptured moves from these levels
Skaters in FS 5-10 levels are permitted to perform maneuvers from any level, and any uncaptured moves.

This is just my soapbox reply: If you want to compete, BUY A SKATERS' MANUAL! (Keep it up to date, too)

You cannot rely on well-meaning friends, internet buddies, or even coaches to know the most current rules.

In 2004, there were some footwork switches in FS6/7/8. They were covered at the coaches' Fall Seminars, announced (w/ handbook replacement pages) on the website, AND included in the newest manuals. Yet, some really good coaches (whom I still respect) didn't remember/know about the changes.
