Well, I've decided that I need some lycra boot covers for my skates to protect them whilst they are still relatively new and white... the problem is, what colour to get?
Should they match with my 'outfit'?
Should they be really bright?
Should they be sparkly?
Should they be plain white?
How about zebra print?
Should they 'match' my ability (i.e. not be too bright until I am really good)
Any suggestions?

plain white.
I wear black ones, but I always wear black pants.

Well, you've pretty much convinced me, but which is better:
White Boot Covers
White SK8TAPE
for
a)appearance
b)cost
c) convenience
Thanks

I would go with white or beige if you skate in traditional attire, and want to keep that look- they look like skates, or black if you skate in black pants- it blends nicely (also a good way for boys to have more options of used skates to buy)
However, if you want to go for more fun- why not have zebra stripes or sparkles?
I have a pair of pink and a pair of blue boot covers from when I was a kid (that I wore over rental skates!). I wear the blue ones when I wear blue track pants but haven't had the guts to wear the hot pink ones yet.
Boot covers are a fun way to show personality!

well, my outfit is mainly black, but i thought i could maybe add a bit of colour to it - on the other hand, i will probably get white/beige so it matches with everything. so,
white
or
beige?
thanks

If you want fancy designs on the boots, Sk8Tape. You can do a lot of fun designs with them. (Think Stencils...)
I used to wear black boots b/c it matches most of my clothes, which are usually dark or black. I now have purple skates...and I get TONS of attention from it too.
I wouldn't recommend specifically purple color boots, of course! Just pick something that is unique to you. Think of your boots as you would your street clothes! ;)

Id definitely recommend tape as well as the boot covers, since boot covers won't protect your boots from blade cuts or really bad scrapes. I'd also suggest white boot covers, because the dye from the dark colored boot covers can rub off onto the boots if you scrape them on the ice doing lunges, Ina Bauers, etc. (that's what happened with mine, anyway).

I bought white boot covers ages ago and have never used them. Just something about the look of boot covers I don't like.
Plus, I just know I am not going to remember to put the covers on before I put the skates on. I use a "buffer" of skate tape around the widest part of the boot and half way down the back strap. Seems to catch most of the toe-pick action

I have a load of boot covers in all the colours of the rainbow (and at least two multi-coloured pairs!). Most of them are lycra, but I have three pairs of general hand-knitted ones, and another three pairs specifically designed for costumes - one like brogues with stripy socks, one like sandals with long white socks and one like trainers with short pink socks (the trainer part was crocheted).
For "formal" competitions and tests I always wear over-boot tights, and for our couples lessons I tend to wear navy or black covers, depending on what else I'm wearing, as they are less noticeable. And on Sundays, if I don't have a lesson, I tend to wear the liturgical colours of the season!

And what else would I expect! Thanks for the grin.

Mine are florescent (must check spelling...) orange
When I got on the ice the other day there was a woman with her coach, and she was like 'Nice boot covers - we'll be able to see you coming!!'

I want a pair of fluorescent orange! And a deep pink - I have a shocking pink pair, but not a deep rose.
