I missed the airing of the '06 show a few days ago. Is there any way to re-capture it so i can see it? Thanks

Actually, you didn't miss it. It was flip-flopped, for some reason, with the Skating and Gymnastics show, which was on Sunday. Kristi's show will be on Jan 14th from 4 to 6 p.m.

Yeaaaah! Thanks for the headsup! That is so enjoyable to see all these famous skaters alongside with spouses and children. It shows they are multi-dimensional people.

Enjoy...
Wow, Daria is BIG!
I have not seen a picture of her in a long time, so when I clicked on the link, I expected to see an 8-year-old little girl! 8O Obviously, people still age. LOL
It has been 10 years since Sergei passed away, correct? Wow.
It is nice to see that both Katia and Ilia found each other. Life rocks.

Oh, my goodness! Thank you for posting! :)
It's amazing---Daria looks just like Sergei (and appears to be built more like him as well), and Liza looks so much like Ilia--you hardly see much of Katia in either of them. They're both so pretty. And it looks like Liza has a nice spin!
When does the show air? (Or have I missed it?)
When does the show air? (Or have I missed it?)
According to www.heatherw.com , THE skating TV schedule site, it will air January 14th.
I thought I had missed it as well.
To be honest, if Daria were not in it, I would not bother watching. I am not a big fan of "fluff". But Daria IS skating royalty! ;)

I know Kristi's Friends and Family was supposed to be broadcast on 12/26, but I couldn't find it anywhere in my TV listings, That's because it wasn't supposed to be broadcast on 12/26 - it was 12/24. It will be on NBC on the 14th.

I guess that's why I couldn't find it on the 26th...goes to show you shouldn't beleive everything you read on the internet.
I found the program on DirectTV on the 14th and I have it all set up to record (I'll be working that day). Thanks Debbie!!!

How old is Daria now? I can't believe how big she is. Liza is cute too.
Who is the small boy in some of the pictures?
Meredith

The small boy is Nancy Kerrigan's son.

I came in on the Kristi Yamaguchi Friends & Family late, in what I believe was Jenni Meno & Todd Sand skating. I'm trying to find out what song they were skating to. Anyone out there know? To be honest I'm not sure it was them, but they skated just before Ilia Kulik. Thanks, Jen

Meno & Sand weren't there.
Perhaps you are referring to "Caruso" by Leonova & Khvalko?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9488R61trY
They also skated to "Fundamentium."
The show was on the verge of boring, but I did only watch to see the kids of the famous people, and I did get to see that! LOL
Victor Petrenkos daughter is fabulous. Does she compete? And someone had mentioned that Daria had competed. Is she going to continue? Kind of tall for Pairs, I think, but maybe dancing? :)

victoria petrenko has competed the past two seasons and i think has won all her little preliminary competitions.. Daria competed in Juvenile but i think she is a great show skater - good you tube on her guest skate in moscow for a couple of years ago
Thanks for the info, 4r.
Do you see either "making it" in the Senior levels in the next 5 years or so?

Didn't Daria move up to intermediate this year?

Overall, it was a very sweet show. I was impressed by "Viktor and Viktoria." I especially liked when he mimed his "aching back." It was very funny.
Do Viktoria and Daria skate for the US or for Russia? Just curious.
The ending was funny; instead of the kids going to bed, the parents sacked out in the beanbags.
I kept hoping to see Scott Hamilton actually skate, not ride in the train. Any word on whether he's completely retired or not?

Daria's been competing USFSA and ISI as long as I remember her first putting skates on.

Daria skates at Intermediate. I think she just moved up this year. She finished around the middle of the pack in her qual group at New England Regionals and did not advance to the final round. I've read a few comp reports about her and it seems that she has landed jumps through 2 lutz (in combo), but no double axel or triples yet. She's now 14 and obviously, in order for her to be competitive at Intermediate, Novice, and beyond, she'll have to get the harder jumps. As others have pointed out, she's very talented as a show skater, and seems to have a lot of personality, but given that she's already taller than her mother (and since her father was about 6'0, I'd say she hasn't stopped growing yet) she may not advance much further technically. I'm not writing her off, but at this point I'll say that I don't think she'll have the same success that her parents did. And from what I remember from Katia's book, and interviews through the years, I think that's fine with her.
As for Viktoria Petrenko, well....she's 9 and while she appears to have good ice presence and great spins, if she's in Prelim, her hardest jump is probably the double loop that she did in the show, which looked a bit cheated to me. Now, obviously it's too soon to tell where she'll be in 5 years or 10, but I'm willing to bet that her father (and other future Olympians) was doing harder jumps at that age. But I suspect Viktor and his wife (who I think also skated) don't want their daughter to have the same life they did, anyway. That seems to be the theme among all of the top skaters when asked about their children's skating - they're just doing it for fun.
I really liked the show. The Polar Express number was adorable, and I liked the numbers where the children skated with their parents, and the "solo" skater numbers, too. One thing I noticed this year is that the skaters who were in multiple Disson shows did make an effort to have at least one number in each show they hadn't performed before (well, except for that Latin on Ice show where it seemed everything had been done before).
Edited to correct the bit on Daria's jump repertoire. Thanks to Sylvia (what would us club comp junkies do w/o her? :)) for passing on the info.

Thanks to NoVa Sk8r for identifying this one, it was Leonova & Khvalko skating to Fundamentum.
Thanks,

I find it very interesting when professional skaters have their own kids - when it comes to skating.. one of my best friends was a national skater who skated internationally and when their daughter was born it was important for her to skate but they just wanted her to enjoy the passion of skating and not sacrifice her childhood for it.. she told us that her life (the mom) was 4 hours of skating a day, no real life outside of the arena and she was the lucky one who made it - but most don't or quit when they were old enough to say no..and she thought it was a very tough life and a great deal of money with limited or no financial reward. For some skaters from the old Eastern block - there wasn't a great deal of choice involved and now that they are living inthe U.S. I think they are giving their children the choice and not pushing them.. perhaps giving them the option of other types of careers.. but it makes you realize what sacrifices these families and children make - I just hope they all enjoy the journey and the week by week accomplishments.. from all accounts it sounds like these skaters kids are enjoying well rounded lives - and not just focused on the skating which is their parents journey....

Music question: anyone know who was singing the version of "Too Darned Hot" that Ilya skated to? The orchestration sounded like a stage/soundtrack rendition. Has there been a recent revival of Kiss Me Kate?
And BTW, when it comes to skating like that, there's no such thing as "too hot." That was awesome! The highlight of the show for me.

Cool, thanks! I didn't know there had been a recent revival. But I shouldn't be surprised -- it's such a fantastic show.
