Starring Sasha Cohen, and featuring basically Tarasova's stable, incl. B&K, L&T. Two performances, 2:00 pm and 7:30. Let me know if you want any other info.

This is probably going to be similar to last year's show, which also mainly featured Tarasova's skaters--along with Appel & Harris, who were training there at the time, and a couple of guest stars (I remember those being Sarah Hughes and NE juvenile medalist Julia Vlassov, but I may be forgetting some). I assume neither Hughes or Yagudin is skating this year since they'd be billed above Cohen, and A&H wouldn't be likely either since their coach is no longer employed by that rink. So likely performers would be B&K, L&T, Kulikova & Markov, Nussear & Gates, maybe Griazev (he's with Tarasova, right?)...anyone else? IIRC last year there were around 8-10 skaters and they each did two programs.

Hmm, I wonder if there's any chance of this fitting into my schedule--I'd be really interested in seeing Nussear & Gates.

Steven Cousins and Lucinda Ruh were also there.

Colette and Lee are skating in the show. Bob is no longer employed by the rink as the figure skating director, but he does still teach there, and their names are on the flier. Andrei Griazev is listed on the flier too, but one of my friends heard something about him competing that weekend. She didn't think to ask for details  I don't know about Alexei; he would be in SOI rehearsals by then, but Simsbury and Newington rinks are only about 40 minutes apart (I spent my summer making that commute) so it's certainly not inconceivable that he'd be there. I'll ask around. I'm definitely planning to go; I'll probably be working as an usher or something.

CanAmSk8ter - where do we get the info we plan to attend? Are tickets being sold yet? Yes - questions, questions. ;)

Griazev is currently on the roster for the JGP in Montreal that weekend.

Interesting...I thought they'd relocated to New Haven?

For info, I would call the rink: (860) 665-7825. The fliers say tickets are $20, so I assume they're not doing on-ice seating. I'm not sure if tickets are on sale yet. Alexei is not on the flier, BTW, but I still think it's gonna be an awesome show.

Trillian: That's interesting, I hadn't heard that one. But they've definitely stayed in Newington. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure there's even a rink in New Haven, other than the soon-to-be-demolished New Haven Coliseum.

I thought that B.Young relocated to the New London area, I seem to remeber a story that he was going to be using a rink near Connecticut College. I thought that A&H were going there to train. I am surprised that this rink is having such a show since there have been so many reports that it was in financial trouble. I also thought that Tarasova was moving on to another facility. Does anyone know if she and her troops have elected to stay?

Two part answer: first of all, I think this is going to be a very low-key show. They're actually calling it an exhibition. Part of the reason I think they can do it is that they don't have to pay to bring in any skaters, it's all skaters who train there as far as I can tell. As for TT, the latest I've heard people saying is that she is indeed staying, although that's only confirmed kind of third-hand.

I just called - there's 2 shows, 2PM and 7.30PM, and you can purchase over the phone with a credit card, they'll mail the tickets to you.

Low-key...exhibition...in other words, paying $20 to watch a practice that won't have show lighting?

Yeah - I'd pay COI an extra $20 to lose the show lighting even! :P

Smaller events are almost always invariably more special than big shows... but you can't beat some of them - there wasn't even an entry charge at UDel.

 Not sure. The $20 makes me think that they aren't doing lighting. I'll try to find out for sure tomorrow. I know they aren't doing the on-ice seating. It's still a good chance to see all of Newington's top skaters at once though, because they only practice two or three teams/skaters at a time. To see them all you'd have to spend several hours there. I'm looking forward to it as my substitute for Skate Canada- I was supposed to go, but I have to compete myself that weekend.

I'm officially signed up as a volunteer for the show, so I don't know what kind of time I'll have, but if anyone wants to meet up let me know.

I was there last year--*SIGHING* Ah, to have been high-fived by both of the future Olympic gold-medallists!! It was quite an awesome experience!

I thought the little girl's name was Julia Lasar!
It sounded like that when I heard it announced.

I just can't believe it was a whole year ago already!

Sasha Cohen - for finale of the 7.30PM show, did a 3T/0.5L/3S. Easily done too. 8)

Other snippets - Appel/Harris I believe attempted a throw 3-loop, she fell though.

One thing for sure - Newington is ice dance heaven! 8O Unfortunately I don't really know how to tell you that much about ice dancing. :P

Hey guys!

so for those who went to the show last night....does anybody have any news about B&K's new programs??...their music, or costumes, or anything??...I'm SO curious! :)

Thanks!

Ok, quick Shae and Vic info. (I'll do a full review later). Did FD, not OD, music has operatic and instrumental sections; 99% sure vocal is Sarah Brightman. Shae's dress was black and red MWM costume from 2001 Worlds; Vic had matching shirt. Don't know if these are final costumes or not. Awesome lifts, cool spread eagle moves, no mistakes that I saw.

Ok, a couple more tidbits: Colette and Lee did miss the throw 3L, but they've started landing it in practice and will continue trying it in competition. Also, I don't know how obvious this was to general audience, but Emilie Nussear got kicked in the knee in the beginning of their FD in the afternoon show. I didn't realize it unitl they took their bows at the end. She had to get stitches put in, but they skated their show number in the second show.

They looked slower than I expected in the second show plus I noticed the knee wrap for Emilie, so I guessed something happened. Hope it heals quickly for her.

Everyone was fabulous, but overall, I'd have to say that I was most impressed with Grushina and Goncharov...wonderful edges, great speed and seamless, with very difficult lifts. I don't know the rules for ice dance, but one of the things I look for is the seamlessness, including exits and entrances to the lifts, whether there is hesitation, or if they look bad, loose the line, and in their case, there was none. She has that whole body movement that Drobiazko had; next Koulkova and Markov were similarly impressive.

Nussear and Gates were really lovely...she in particular has great detail and moves like a dream, she has a very passionate, nuanced, highly colored movement which seems to come naturally to her and really was beautiful...injured and a bit slow, however. If she were an opera singer, she would be di Stefano...really great, I liked them a lot.

For me, the hardest thing of the whole evening was that Tatiana Tarasova was sitting right next to me, and since I figured she was working, watching her skaters very attentively, I didn't want to bother her. It was so hard not to say, "Thank you so much for all your incredible work, Ms. Tarasova", LOL!

This was the first time I saw Sasha skate live, and she is so much better than on television...particularly her camel spin (she switched edges, like in the 2000 SP) was even more incredible and beautiful and fast live.

I don't know how anyone can say she doesn't cover the ice or skate fast. She is very, very fast, and breathtakingly seamless and her edges are absolutely quiet.

Nussear and Gates are so lovely to watch. Together they have a mystical connection that's mesmerizing. I'd love to see them perform an exhibition to West Side Story love song "There's a Place for Us"

Svetlana and Arseni have come a long way. No doubt we'll be seeing them climb higher with the Russian Federation. They were fast and precise. Loved their exhibition last year to "Grease"

Shae and Vic ... well what can I say more. I've always been a huge
Bourne and Kraatz fan.

In your indepth review of the Tatiana Show you wrote "Nussear and Gates were really lovely...injured and a bit slow (blade cut and stiches first show) however, if she were an Opera singer, she would be
di Stefano...really great I liked them a lot.
I'm into music, Vivaldi, Glass, jazz to modern but Opera is a little over my head, so, please who or what is di Stefano?
