On one of the ESPN broadcasts earlier this year they mentioned something about the scoring rules being updated in regard to Biellman spins, thus we should not see so many of them this season. Does anyone know more about that and what changed/how it impacts spins, etc?

I think that the program requirements were changed to limit the number of Biellman spins used in each program. Much to Dick Button's relief, haha.

I don't know the details, but I do know they tweaked a lot of the scoring rules so that it isn't just 1 particular type of element that gets top marks for difficulty. For example, last year all the dancers were doing lifts with the woman in a split position because that was deemed most difficulty. The result was a noticable lack of variety. It looks like this year there's more variety, so I'm assuming the scoring system was changed for that element.

Thanks for the responses. I have noticed a difference this year, as there has been much more variety. I was so tired of everyone doing the Biellman spin; especially when they did it for every one of their spins. I really do miss the basic spins that skaters used to perform. It just seems like they have to cram so much into them now.
