Fan Voting Highlights 2006 Marshalls U.S. Figure Skating Challenge At Agganis Arena At Boston University On Dec. 10


(10/20/06) - Following the success of the 2005 event, the 2006 Marshalls U.S. Figure Skating Challenge at Agganis Arena at Boston University on Dec. 10 will feature interactive fan voting to determine the winners in a showdown between U.S. Figure Skating's biggest stars. The event will be broadcast live on ABC from 1-3 p.m. EST, allowing fans in the arena and at home to vote for their favorite performances by using in-arena voting keypads, calling 1-900 numbers or logging on to the Internet.
Scheduled to compete in the event are four ladies, two men, one pairs team and one ice dancing team; nine of the 10 competitors were members of the 2006 U.S. Olympic Team. Athletes who train on the West Coast will compete against each other in the first round, including Olympic silver medalist Sasha Cohen, Four Continents champion Katy Taylor, two-time World medalist Evan Lysacek, and two-time U.S. pairs champions Rena Inoue & John Baldwin. Athletes who train on the East Coast will similarly compete against each other in the first round. They are World champion Kimmie Meissner, U.S. bronze medalist Emily Hughes, three-time U.S. champion Johnny Weir, and Olympic ice dancing silver medalists Tanith Belbin & Ben Agosto. Athletes are subject to change.
Voting during the event will take place by four different methods:

1-900 dial-in calls – numbers will be posted on air during the ABC broadcast
Online voting at www.usfigureskating.org
In-arena voting
Panel of expertsThe format for the event and live ABC broadcast will be as follows:


First Round – West Coast: All four athlete(s) from the West Coast will perform an exhibition or a competition program. Voting will take place and the top two vote-getters from the West Coast will advance to the second round.
First Round – East Coast: All four athlete(s) from the East Coast will perform an exhibition or a competition program. Voting will take place and the top two vote-getters from the East Coast will advance to the second round.
Second Round: The four advancing athletes will skate a second exhibition or competition program. The athlete(s) in the second round receiving the most votes will win the title.Tickets for the Marshalls U.S. Figure Skating Challenge will go on sale Friday, Oct. 27, at 10 a.m. They can be purchased at the Agganis Arena at Boston University Ticket Office located at 925 Commonwealth Ave. (Mon.-Fri., 10 a.m.-5 p.m.), at www.agganisarena.com, by calling Ticketmaster at (617) 931-2000, or at www.ticketmaster.com.
