CBC is kicking off its "ShowVote" series where viewers vote on which classic programs they'd like to see again as part of CBC's 50th anniversary. The series begins tonight at 8:00 p.m. when the winner of the "CBC specials" category will be televised. Viewers could choose between six different hour-long specials in this category and two of the choices were skating specials--Toller Cranston's "Strawberry Ice" and Kurt Browning's "You Must Remember This." Unfortunately, any last-minute attempts at "stuffing the ballot box" are out of the question since the voting deadline was Sept. 4. :( You can find more information on this webpage:

I must admit I'm disappointed none of the picks in the "Sports" category were figure skating events! ;)

And the winner is...Kurt Browning! I'm watching You Must Remember This on CBC in Atlantic Canada right now and hopefully the rest of Canada (especially those of you who haven't got this on tape yet!) reads this in time to catch it, too. Happy viewing, Kurt fans! :D
Thanks for the heads-up! I already have this on tape, but...:)

well i just watched this last week and really enjoyed it... it is a wonderful show and the skating of "singing in the rain" is beyond terrific.
I watched the middle chunk of it while I was at the gym on the treadmill. It was a hoot seeing a young Ben Ferreira in his bit with a very young-looking Kurt!
I also have this on tape -- one of the few skating events that I haven't taped over, and have no intention of doing so...
My all-time favorite skating special, and even though I have it taped already, I taped it again LOL. Can never have too many copies. Congratulations to Kurt.

I also have this on tape and taped it again last night. Thanks to our dish, I was able to watch it many times last night, which after a very, very difficult few days was a true God send. Interesting thing though....When I turned on our on air guide, every single CBC station we get had ShowVote Classics listed on the screen. Except for CBC Regina which had Kurt Browning : You Must Remember This listed right there for all to see!! So much for secrecy....LOL!!

I was actually hoping the "winner" would be either Strawberry Ice (the Toller special) or the Oscar Peterson one, since I had You Must Remember This on tape already ... but I watched it anyway, and of course still enjoyed it.

Speaking of this special ... does anyone know who sang the version of La Vie en Rose that Josée skated to in "The Big Melt" segment? It definitely wasn't Edith Piaf.

Artemis, I'd like to know the answer to your question, too! I tried looking for the answer on some of the S&P websites (they used this exact same version of La Vie En Rose for one of their 1999/2000 exhibition numbers), but couldn't find anything. :(
BTW, I'd also love to know who sang the "Go Slow" song accompanying Kurt's duet with Christine Hough in this special--I've never been able to find anyone able to identify this music and it's been driving me crazy for years! :?:
