View Full Version : Joanna Glick ??????
Does anyone know what this lovely skater is doing now? With the anniversary of 9-11 coming up I thought of her brother and was curious if she had started competing again.
Thanks.

Joanna had already decided to quit competition last year. I know there was some talk that she might come back, but AFAIK she hasn't entered any competitions. The deadline for regionals is past, so unless she's registered for North Atlantics, I'd assume we won't be seeing her this season.

Was her brother on flight 93?

Yes, he was.
Shortly after 9/11 last year, there was a big tribute show, that was originally scheduled way in advance to tribute to schedule the US Skating team that perished in the early 60's (forgive me, I usually know the year, but today it isn't coming to me). They re-addressed the tribute to include 9/11 victims. Joanna Glick skated in tribute to her brother Jeremy, who perished on Flight 93 in PA.

Yes, her brother, Jeremy Glick, was on one of the flights (the one that crashed in PA). She was invited to do some tribute shows last year.

She was at the Meadowlands, NJ COI this past spring as well... that was in June if I remember correctly.

Although I don't have any photos from the Tribute show up, I do have some from the Rockefeller Center Opening as well as the NJ COI show. Joanna didn't try any jumps at the MSG tribute, but she did try double axel and triple loop at both NJ shows.

I hope Joanna is OK--It'd be nice to see her come back.
Great pics, Michelle!!

There's an article in the September "Teen People" magazine about Joanna and her teen volunteer program. She mentions that she intends to get back to skating next year and is looking forward to teaching Jeremy's daughter to skate in the future.

wow... I watched my tape of the tribute(1961 US team, btw for someone who was trying to remember :)) and when they showed Liz Beth and little Emmy(sp?) I thought "wouldn't it be neat that at the 15 or 20th anniversery of the Sept. 11th it'd be reversed, Joanna watching on as her "pupil" took center ice for a tribute skate. :)

Heather has a video uploaded at her site of Joanna's tribute performance:

I'm actually watching Joanna on ABC right now--Peter Jennings interviewed a group of children shortly after the attacks happened and they're doing a "reunion show" now. Joanna's sitting right next to Peter.
Peter asked Joanna if she'd listened to the Flight 93 voice recorder and she said no, but her mother and other family members had (they could hear his voice in the background.) She also said she didn't need to hear the recorder to know her brother was a hero--she already knew that before the attacks took place.
Joanna said she first found out her brother was on one of the hijacked planes after her mother picked her up from school early that day. She was originally in shock the first couple of days and watched her family members break down one by one, but things are better for them now.
Joanna and a group of other teenagers have formed a group called the Caring Crew, which will help out families (babysitting, chores, etc.) affected by the attacks. She never mentioned her skating, but it sounds like she's pretty busy nonetheless!
I know a lot of you are trying to stay away from all of today's 9/11 anniversary coverage, but maybe some of you might want to tune into this segment to find out what Joanna's been up to. I wish her well in whatever she decides to do.
