Fêtes de Noël
The Pond at Bryant Park Presented by Citi
Opening on October 27, 2006

The Pond ice skating rink returns as the centerpiece of Fêtes de Noël, which also includes the fifth annual Holiday Shops at Bryant Park. Free admission public skating is the primary feature of the 170' x 100' rink, in addition to skating lessons, skating shows, special events and activities.

Skaters of all levels are welcome. Whether you are looking to skate before going to the office, through the lunch hour, with friends at a party, with a date, or for a spin under the stars at a holiday party, The Pond at Bryant Park, presented by Citi, is a perfect destination.

Last year's season ran from Oct 28th through mid-January, so don't let the lure of FREE ice time (courtesy of Citibank) get away! (You do have to pay for rentals or lessons) Last year's hours ended at 10:30pm. No announcement yet for this year.
The hours are

Nice having connections ... A little birdie says there's big doings on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at Bryant Park's ice rink.

Skaters are needed to fill the early-morning ice and be on Fox 5's Good Day New York. Follow this LINK (http://www.nycares.org/volunteer/project_info.php?AID=63525&orientation=notrequired) for more info.

Bring a clean, spare coat for a good cause! The Weatherproof® Garment Company "Coat-The-Rink-Skate-A-Thon" is having a coat drive. They'll match donations with new coats, so every donation helps two people stay warm. (If the cold weather ever arrives here in NYC) Lots of bennies for you good-hearted people! More info here (http://www.nycares.org/volunteer/annual_events/coat_drive/search_sites.php#weatherproof).

Sasha Cohen's going to be skating in an exhibition (http://www.bryantpark.org/calendar/events/event.php?event=268) with a few others that night at 7:30pm.

I think I'm taking a vacation day next week!

ETA:
The Ice Theatre of New York is performing on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at 6:30pm.

Wow, that's cool. I don't think I have an extra coat, but I'll try to scrounge something out of the wardrobe. You used the same link all three times, so there isn't info on Sasha's Exhibition later that nite. I missed going to see her at Rockerfeller, and Johnny when he was in LI recently, so I'm way eager for this. :) Thanks for posting!

It's a small irony that the event is for coats (albeit charity coats, not fashion coats), and that the Pond at Bryant Park is closing early again (http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/484131p-407402c.html) this season to make way for Fashion Week.

Sorry, I was rushing when I made the post because I wanted to get the word out ASAP. The links are fixed now.

Bad news: I was planning to go skating tonight at this rink, but it's closed today because of the unseasonably warm weather. Let's all hope for a cold wind on Tuesday, so the Show can go on!

You're right: January 18th is the scheduled closing date for Bryant Park this year. Hopefully, the season will be longer next year. Great article - thanks for posting it!

The Pond at Bryant Park is open and empty, just waiting for those coats and donations!

I'll have to turn on the TV to see if I know anyone. (I'm home sick with a sick child. )

Have fun and report back if you go today!

Hey Sunjoy - I know you went yesterday and I want a full report from you.

For those lurkers (you know who you are) among us, chime in and tell us the who, what, where details!

I posted about it on SashaFans, and I'll link to it here because there's a better report than mine (http://www.sashafans.com/forum/showpost.php?p=271867&postcount=29) of the actual skating that went on, and pictures further on in that thread. My own experience: http://www.sashafans.com/forum/showthread.php?p=271820#post271820.

Last-chance weekend to skate at this rink - it closes January 17th.

It's a bit rainy today, so attendance is light.

OK, so we're going to be crashing into each other watching the hockey game on the screen? huh.

It's sort of a good idea though, if traffic-patterns on the ice don't get too bad. Rangers vs Devils. Good opportunity for me to dust-off the old hockey skates for a night.

I'm an equal opportunity skate fan; hockey's more interesting to me than Baseball or Basketball. :)

Bryant park skaters/spectators: as you know the rink's closing to make way for fashion week. The Pond management not-so-subtly follows this announcement with the email address for comments: bpc@urbanmgt.com I think the attendance count at the rink, along with concessions at the park, *and* the mayor's apparent support for wanting to extend the season next year should all speak for themselves, but there's no harm in adding your opinion to the fray.
