SENIOR LADIES
1. Andrea Varraux won with the only jump landed being a 2axel. She fell on her 3z attempt and 3salchow. Nice music from the Secret Garden soundtrack, great footwork, good program, great spins and good spirals. It could have gone either way between Jennifer and Andrea since both fell twice. It ended up being a 4-3 split for Varraux.
2. Jennifer Park had an awesome short program with great spins, good footwork, and a good spiral. She landed a great 3loop out of running threes, but fell on her triple flip and also fell on the double axel, which she basically had and then fell. Wonderful attack!
3. Kabino- 3t fall, 2ax, 2s. Pretty music, sedate and nice performance, spins were ok, nice spirals. She impressed me more here than she has in the past.
4. Wetzel- 2r-stepout-2t, 2ax (underrotated and fellout), 2f I think. Skated to Lord of the Dance. Good spirals, pretty good spins, nice detail in her moves and spins, pretty good footwork. Fun program.
5. Mauser- 3sal fall, 2ax (2foot, turnout), 2t (2foot, stepout). Pretty good spins, spirals were ok.
JUNIOR MEN
1. Traighe Rouse- 2ax, 3z, 3t-2t
Awesome program, great spins, good footwork, everything he did was crisp, clean, and impressive. His music sounded like instrumental Tori Amos, "Precious Things." I could be wrong. Looks a thousand times improved since Liberty Open. Clear winner here.
2. Nathan Evancho- 3z, 3t-2t (turnout), 2ax
Scary shark attack kind of music with an 80s sound to it. Manly movements, good footwork and steps, great job. His skating really seems to be coming together this season.
3. Mark McLeod- 3t-2t (HEIGHT!!!, 2z, 2ax fall
Nice movement, good coverage, nice footwork and all other elements as well. Nice skating and a joy to watch.
4. Michael Solonoski- 3z fall, 2r (stepout), 2ax
This just didn't seem to be his day. Spins were just ok, footwork was fine, most movements were not strong, convictive, or fast enough yet, but this could turn into quite a good program later in the season. I was very impressed with his skating at Liberty, though he looked a little off today. Skated to On the Waterfront (same music Michael Weiss skated to in the SP at 2000 Nationals). Looking forward to seeing him in the FS. Lovely skater when he's on.
5. Noah Abrahams- I couldn't decide whether to put him 3rd or 4th, he ended up 5th. I was told he got a spin deduction or 2. I don't count revolutions in spins-- so that must have been why he ended up last. Fun jazzy program. Jumps were 3s-2t, 3z fall, 2ax stepout. Someone thought he hit the boards at one point, but I must have missed it. Spins actually looked good to me, solid skating, good program.
JUNIOR LADIES
Joelle Forte is a great skater. Great spins and basics, graceful, good coverage, nice split/falling leaves. Landed a 3t-2t and 2z. Popped (waxeled?) the axel.
Samantha Mohr got the 2ax and 2z, fell on the 3r attempt. Spins had pretty good speed, nice spirals, pretty Ina Bauer, nice ice coverage. :)
This is the first real tiny club competition I've been to. Fun, and everyone there seemed really nice.
