Shouldn't this be in the General Skating forum? This is the News/Articles forum, which this topic is neither...

Thanks Isk8NYC!

Best skater of all time? Hmmm.....

Most successful (does that make someone the best?) Sonja Henie
Most innovative (ditto above) Gary Beacom, and others before him

What do you all think makes someone the 'best' - titles, innovation, popularity, career length... I certainly can't say!

Let's see, I'd say Peggy Fleming for the women and Dick Button for the men.

Well there have been so many wonderful skaters who are valued for their individual (or dual) performances and for their contributions to the sport but ... if I have to pick just one then my vote goes for Kurt.

I would say Evgeni Plushenko. I consider this wonderful skater the most graceful, technical, and artistic. His footwork is always thrilling - he grabs you! - and Zheniya shows so much emotion and enthusiasm in all of his programs. Besides, he is the only male Senior skater who successfully attempted a Biellmen spin in his programs. Plus he landed the triple toe loop at age seven and the quad-loop at 14! <3 you, Plushy!!

Kurt Browning.
Plushenko may have a quad-triple, but Kurt had one of the first quads, and he still has amazing feet and the best innovation and showmanship!

Yes, I voted for Kurt too. In addition to the phenomenal technical and artistic skating qualities he has, I also think he's such a fantastic ambassador for the sport and a great example of how a role model should behave on and off the ice. He always has time for his fans and for the media, and he exemplifies good sportship in both winning and losing.
