Here's an ARTICLE (http://www.azcentral.com/community/gilbert/articles/0720GR-IceRink0720Z12.html) about an ice rink to be built in Southeast Valley, Arizona.
(The link's funny - you can view it okay the first time. Later, it asks for registration info. I left the email blank and it let me view the article, though.)
Cool Ice in the Desert - Awesome Idea!
(Hope they add some solar energy collectors.)

Sorry, but that's just an amusing article.
"With so few rinks in the area..."
We have at least 5 rinks in Phoenix, each of which have at least 5-6 hours a day of freestyle time (and NOT all in the early mornings). Most have two sheets, meaning there's plenty of time for hockey, public, LTS, etc. Granted, the closest 2 rinks to Gilbert are in Chandler or Tempe, but really it's max a 30 min drive.
This is compared to Tucson (I just moved from Tucson to Phoenix), 2 hours away from Phoenix, that has 1 rink in the entire city, located in the far southeast corner of the city. Meaning many of our skaters had to drive 45 minutes to an hour for maybe an hour or two of freestyle ice (none on Thursdays). For example, I lived on the other side of town, and it took me 4 hours to skate 2 hours (1 hour there, skate 2 hours, 1 hour home).

I knew that someone on this board is from Arizona.
I guess that means they'll have a lot of competition, huh?
