Hi All...

I am seeing the show on July 8 in Dallas. Has anyone seen this summers tour and any reviews (if so)?

Maybe try goldenskate?

Let us know what you think of the show -- I am thinking about going at the end of July but haven't quite decided yet. Tickets are pretty darn expensive!!

I saw it in April in Wash, DC. It was good, but it felt a bit odd not to see the Oly ladies champ - and I don't think Shizuka is scheduled for any of the stops on the tour. Sasha and Michelle were both good - neither did any jumps, but it didn't bother me - I thought both of their programs were very enjoyable to watch. Plushenko's Tosca was very good, as was Tot/Mar's Phantom of the Opera - and I'm not really a fan of either, so I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed their programs as much as I did. Everyone on the show skated well (it was great to see Kimmie - she may or may not be doing the summer stops) although I could have done w/o the acrobats and the hula hoop woman and seen real skaters instead - but as long as people in the audience cheer, I assume Tom Collins will keep them on tour. Total time for the show was about 2 hours, including the intermission, which is a tad shorter than other years - I really wish they would add more skaters, as there's certainly time.

I saw it and was honestly disappointed. I felt bad for Tanith and Ben's placement in the program, in the first act with the standard tour skaters (Surya Bonaly, Dan Hollander, etc). They should've been with the other Olympic skaters in the 2nd half.

It had been a few years since I saw the show, and the last time I saw it there weren't any "novelty" acts (the hula hoop woman, etc) - I think the show would be better off without it. The show is entitled Champions on Ice for a reason - so we can see the champion skaters... I'm sure the hula hoop woman is a good skater, she looked it from the skating she did, but ... like someone else said in this thread, they aren't "real" skaters.

Some of the programs were very entertaining and others, well, weren't. But that's skating, I guess!

The show I was at (2 weeks ago) didn't even last 2 hours - it was barely 1:40. Kimmie didn't skate in the performance I saw which was also disappointing.

While the skating was good, especially from the Olympic competitors, I wasn't impressed. I won't be going back next year.

Hi, I'm a new poster although I have lurked for a long time  I want to add my vote to a positive experience at COI this year. It's been a couple of months, but it still remains as a wonderful memory. I have been attending shows and comps for years, so I can be pretty critical. I actually would have attended another performance in my area if the scheduling had worked out.
The costumes and the music are fun, and I love seeing skaters like Rudy, and Dan who actually has a funny new program.

If you have the time and some extra money, why not add a skating show with top stars to your summer? ;)

J.

Although it's a little past due I thought I'd offer up my review of the Dallas COI show. I have to admit I was not quite sure how it would be going into it. But I am so glad I went. In fact it was one of the most enjoyable COI's I have seen of late. I am not into the gimicky stuff (sidenote) but it all flowed really well. The cast was really on as far as as the technical aspect...quite a few triple lutzes were thrown (although no triple axels). As far as the cast was concerned we had everyone I was expecting sans Messiner and Lambiel (bummer). Oh and Katy Taylor was a special guest.

Now rather than sit her and give you all a blow by blow. I thought I'd share a quick story. Knowing I'd had prime real estate (front row, center) I took a sign for Evan Lysacek (because I think he's fab). So after his solo I stand up and wave it (oh and it's nicely made partly because I am a graphic designer by profession and let's face it I don't design crap). So anyway he didn't notice it. Bummer! But in the closing number he finally caught it (actually a few others caught the sign first). So he waved and I felt pleased. Well then he came by and gave me a solid high five. At this point I was so thrilled and feeling a bit hypoglycemic (due to all the excitement). So the skaters exit the ice and the roadies come out. Shows over...right? Wrong! Just as I turn one skater emerges. It was Evan...he skated to the boards in front of me, said "thanks" and gave me a hug. I was so unbelieveably shocked. I couldn't even put to words together I was so shocked. I am sure I looked like a fool, but I was totally caught off guard. But what a great memory.

I went to the summer show this year, and although it wasn't as good as past years, it was well worth it, and the price wasn't too bad.
