I seem to recall way back when in the 80's seeing a bizarre but spectacular move done by a pair... can't tell you which competition, which country, what year, sorry. I just remember it was before '88 or so when I started to follow the sport more closely. Anyway the move was this:

After a death spiral, the guy would let go of the partner, who would continue to glide on one foot (I don't remember if she was still in a death spiral position or some other position like shoot-the-duck). Then the guy would skate off and then back towards the lady and do a jump OVER her (double? triple?).

Does anyone remember this move being done, and if so, by whom and when? It sounds crazy, I know, but I swear I remember seeing this.

I seem to remember seeing a move on Memories on Ice by the Jelanick's (spelled wrong, I'm sure). She stayed in the death spiral position while he did a single axel (not over her) and caught her again to finish the death spiral.

Wow, sounds just one step away from the headbanger-throw move from The Cutting Edge ;-)

Sounds like a move from the Cutting Edge 2 (Going for the Gold)!

Maybe the lady did a one-handed death spiral, similar to what Charlie Tickner did? Anyway, I'm curious to hear more about this pair move ...

The one I mentioned is on this video: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/6301600819/104-4856447-3592701?v=glance#product-details

($75??? I might just have to sell mine!)

Ok, dcden, I was in Greenwich, CT, on saturday getting my blades sharpened and the shopowner was playing a video (Magic Memories on Ice?) and what did my wondrous eyes see? The Jelineks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_Jelinek) (Maria and Otto) of Canada doing the move you describe at the 1962 World Championship. They start off with a death spiral; she comes up a bit maintaining the spiral, and he does an axel. It was quite fun to watch while my boots/blades were being fixed!

But he did he do the Axel over her?
