This looks like it could be even cheezier than the original, if that's possible!

Stars Christy Carlson Romano and Ross Thomas, neither of whom I've ever heard of.
Airs on ABC Family this Sunday.

I saw a banner for this movie at the ice rink I went to this afternoon. I agree, it's probably cheesy.
Christy Carlson Romano is (I believe) the voice of Kim Possible. She also starred in the "Even Stevens" series and appeared as Belle in the Broadway production of "Beauty and the Beast." (All Disney properties: she's the newest Annette, so to speak. I actually like her more than some of the other mouseketeers.

ABC Family Channel
5pm ET
The "classic" The Cutting Edge (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104040/)If you've never seen this movie, watch it -- you'll understand why so many people on this board say "Toepick!" with a smirky smilie. It's a bit of a cult classic because it's so cheesy. I expect they'll have cleaned up the language and one-nighter scenes (mild anyway) since it's being shown before prime time on a "family" channel.
followed by ...
7pm ET
The "sequel" The Cutting Edge II: Going for the Gold (http://abcfamily.go.com/cuttingedgetwo/)
All-new remake of the original. Looks like it involves a rollerblader changeover to figure skating instead of the former hockey player.

Have to chime in.
I really have a special place in my heart for the first one. Maybe because I watched it a cumulative of about 80 times in my adolescence.
The remake, which I expected to be cheesy but enjoyable, was NOT! Bleck!
Perhaps if they had written their own script rather than lifting plot elements and even LINES out of the original.
Plus that actress that plays the mom looks nothing like Moira Kelley.
Sorry for the rant. It's just so bad!

It would have been fun if they could have gotten the original actors to play the parents, and if they had come up with a less-copycat plot, and what happened to the estate and private ice they had from the first movie???

Hi
This week I managed to get my hands on both of these films, The Cutting Edge and The Cutting Edge 2 Going for Gold.
To be honest I enjoyed both of them. OK there are a few issues with the authenticity such as competetive skating being done in a dimly lit arena with spotlights following the skaters and maybe the 2nd film does lift a couple of lines from the 1st film but over all its not bad.
It seems more like a typical 80s big romance film rather than something contemporary but its not as cheesy as I expected it to be.
The famous line 'Toe Pick' is used and the film more or less begins with the leading lady showing her rear, as was the same with the first one. The plot, a man and a woman almost detesting each other then falling in love during the skating, declaring their love on the ice just before a competition is similar but its not that bad.
I enjoyed it, my kids will enjoy it. Its light hearted and its worth seeing. It passed a lonely afternon away for me quite pleasantly.
