I see that Toller Cranston will be coming out with a new book, released Sept. 17th, called "Ice Cream". It apparently is about his opinions about 30 different skaters. I must admit I prefer the title and picture on this book much more than his last 2 offerings.

I enjoy his books so much. Is there a list of the skaters anywhere? I might even buy this one since it's under $20 with the amazon discount. I can't afford full price! :)

Here's the list of skaters:
Sonja Henie, the Protopopovs, Pahkomova/Gorshkov, Peggy Fleming, John Curry, Beatrix Schuba, Dorothy Hamill, Robin Cousins, Torvill/Dean, Scott Hamilton, Kurt Browning, Gary Beacom, Underhill/Martini, the Duchesnays, Brian Orser, Jozef Sabovcik, Liz Manley, Katarina Witt, Midori Ito, Nancy Kerrigan, Tonya Harding, Philippe Candelero, Laurent Tobel, Oksana Baiul, and Lucinda Ruh

I didn't realize they were selling this through Amazon in the US too... hmmm...a use for the Amazon gift certificate I just got =).

Here are the 30 skaters on Toller's "most interesting" list (I'm guessing he counts pairs teams as two separate skaters):

Sonia Henie
Protopopovs
Pahkomova/Gorshkov
Peggy Fleming
John Curry
Beatrix Schuba
Dorothy Hamill
Robin Cousins
Torvill/Dean
Scott Hamilton
Gary Beacom
Underhill/Martini
Duchesnays
Brian Orser
Jozef Sabovcik
Liz Manley
Katarina Witt
Kurt Browning
Midori Ito
Nancy Kerrigan
Tonya Harding
Philippe Candeloro
Laurent Tobel
Oksana Baiul
Lucinda Ruh

Apparently Toller's restricted this list to skaters he's worked with or toured with in the past, which explains why many of the "newer generation" skaters (Michelle Kwan, Alexei Yagudin, etc.) aren't included. I wonder when Toller ever skated with Sonia Henie, though! ;)

BTW, interesting book cover...

I have to say, I'm not crazy about the idea of this book. I mean, I'm not sure I would be so happy if one of my friends or colleges decided to publish a book with their opinions of me. It kind of feels like he is exploiting these skaters - much different than Talking Figure Skating where the athletes spoke in their own voices. Will reserve judgment, but not going to run to the store to get this one. (Don't own the other two as well...).

I'm sure Toller received permission from the skaters or their families.
