At least he will be, starting this fall--here's a short blurb from the Globe and Mail about Elvis' new career:

Elvis in the booth
CTV-TSN has hired Elvis Stojko as an analyst for its coverage of the
Canadian and world figure skating championships.
I remember Elvis did a bit of commentary at 1998 Canadian Open and I thought he did a fairly decent job. It'll be interesting to see him and Rod Black together in the broadcast booth! ;)

Glad to hear this finally. I am American so I guess I'll have to go to Canada to catch the show. However, I heard about this 2 months ago and at that time it was rumored that he was slated to REPLACE Rod Black.

Congratulations to Elvis, I think he will be excellent, though of course there will be a learning curve, but he is a smart guy and he has excellent vocal quality. I can't stand listening to commentators who are nasal, high pitched or unclear, as many of the athlete-turned commentators turn out to be.
Course I won't bet to hear him in the US, but I am still happy for him and for the lucky Canadians!

This is happy news. I remember several years ago when Rod Black was interviewing Elvis on the rocks at the beach in Victoria, that they were discussing what Elvis would like to do when he retired. Elvis said in a joking way that he might come and work with Rod. Rod laughed and said "You've got a job, man! You've got a job!!" They were teasing at the time, but I remember thinking that I hoped it would actually happen. A smart decision for CTV!

Hmmm ... that sounds unlikely to me. It seems to be a fairly standard and relatively successful format to have a non-skater/professional journalist paired with one or more skater/experts.
But I've been extremely impressed with all the interviews and anaysis Elvis has done in the past few years, so I think he'll do a terrific job calling the shots. Can't wait!

Elvis really is good at that kind of job. I've been impressed with his ability to do that kind of thing. Even the show about the history of skating in Canada that was on TV years ago, showed how good he is at speaking on television. He's not replacing Rod though is he? It will be good to have a commentator who has specialized in the men's discipline. It's good how CTV does that - Tracey Wilson & Debbi Wilkes really complement each other.
Rod and Elvis should complement each other immensely - as long as Rod doesn't fawn over Elvis in the broadcast booth the way he fawned over him on the ice! Seriously, I think they will make a great team and am looking forward to hearing their running commentaries.

Hmmm, I wonder if there going to show footage of Elvis doing elements, like jumps from the past to show the audience what the jumps are suppose to look like. That would be smart for TSN and CTV if they did. It would get all those Elvis fans to watch and also get the audience to watch the new skaters coming up such as Jeffery Buttle.
It's going to be awesome to here Elvis' voice as the kids who use to skate under him skate before him. Just have to get more tape to tape it all because with working early in the day I have to head to bed early plus, when the skating starts, I'll be at the rink skating myself getting ready for tests and more competitions. I'll have to wait months before I can even see the tapes too.
As far as Elvis taking over Rod Blacks place, Elvis has his tour, going to do more movies and will be racing some kind of car. So, Elvis has got to find time to breath too.

This is great for Elvis, BUT, and there is a 'but', do you realize that this means we're going to start off the season with Rod Black once again saying 'Elvis is in the building'? Bet you ten bucks he can't pass that one by.
I know - Rod could NEVER pass up saying that! He's so corny sometimes, but he does know sports - and I LOVE his laugh!

I wonder what him and Mr Black will say when they are in the broadcast booth. It will be quite interesting to see as Rod's favourite saying is "Elvis is in the building". I am glad to see fresh blood in the broadcast booth, and someone who just finished competing last year, so that they can have first hand experience. I was exstacic to find out that he will be joining CTV-TSN, but it looks as if I have to wait till Nationals and Worlds next year. Hopefully it will go by quickly.

or he will say "Elvis Lives!" haha. I get a bit sick of the Elvis jokes even though I love Elvis dearly.

Yeah, something like that, or perhaps something along the lines of the features Kurt did in his first couple of years as a pro. I remember one with him talking about how different skaters deal with the pressure of competition ... and there were two or three others that year. Elvis would be great at that -- he's such a natural in front of the camera.

This is the best news I've heard in ages, I suddenly find myself really looking forward to the season. It will add a fresh news aspect to watching skating on TV. Elvis will avoid too much bias entering his ideas, I think, and some commentators (need I name them?) suffer from that. As well as the gushy over emotional approach of others. He will be very honest, nuts and bolts, and tough but constructive and fair. And, he'll be enjoying the competition as much as anyone, hopefully can bring back some excitment about competition and take the focus off the wheels and deals and peculiarities of the judges.

i LOVE ctv's team of commentors, every year.
barb was great... i miss her! lol
with the exception of debbi, everyone else (elvis, tracy, rod, barb) is informational without being too chatty That's great, because I hate it when they won't stop talking, and you just want to enjoy a program without the chatter and excessive gushing.
i think debbi's informational and obviously knows her stuff, but she's way too chatty, gushes too much, and her voice isn't as clear as some of the others.

I really like Debbi Wilkes!! No one is more knowledgeable than her. I do think that Tracy Wilson is the best commentator overall though. I wish Debbi was able to have her show Ice Time again. That was a really good show!
