International Teams Named in Pairs and Ice Dancing

(1/13/06) - Following the 1-2 finish at the 2006 State Farm U.S. Championships, the pairs teams of Rena Inoue & John Baldwin and Marcy Hinzmann & Aaron Parchem were named to the U.S. Olympic Team. (Go here to see results of the free skate.)

Inoue and Baldwin were in fourth place heading into the free skate, but they landed the first-ever throw triple Axel in competition and scored 125.57 points, moving them into first.

Hinzmann and Parchem had to sweat it out. They were second after the short program and scored 108.91 points in the free skate. They then had to watch the teams of Naomi Nari Nam & Themistocles Leftheris and Katie Orscher & Garrett Lucash, but neither caught them.

Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto won their third straight U.S. ice dancing title and will lead a U.S. contingent of three teams at the Olympic Winter Games.

I'm so happy that Tanith and Ben and Jamie and Ryan made the team in Ice Dance. Now if only Matt Savoie is chosen for the third spot in men's that would be perfect for me.
