Is anyone attending the Cranberry Open on the Cape this week? If so, any results/reports? Thank you.

I should be able to report on Saturday night--junior and senior ladies, senior men, and some pairs exhibitions. That's all I'm going to be able to see, though, so I hope someone's able to let us know how the novice ladies look!

Trillian, do you know which seniors will be at Cranberry? Which Pair teams will be there? I can't think of any other than O/L who should be packing for Nebelhorn.

There aren't any senior pairs. Renee Laverdiere & Chad Brennan, last year's NE novice champs, are listed as a junior pairs exhibition, while Julia Vlassov & partner (Meekins?) are skating a novice exhibition. I don't recall any others above intermediate, but there were several lower level teams listed too. None of them are competing from what I saw, just exhibiting their programs. Anyway, I'm primarily interested in seeing Renee and Chad--I thought they were a beautiful pair last year and I'm curious to know how they've developed.

I think the senior men listed were Rusty Fein and Ian MacAdam, but I may be totally wrong. Senior ladies registered include Louann Donovan (!), Kristin Tudisco (reigning regional champ), Krissa Miller, Jacki Crugnola, Cassandra Benito, Alexa Ainsworth, and Dorothy Nowobilski, among others I'm sure I'm forgetting. (Lindsey Witalis and Tiffany St. Bernard maybe?) There were 20+ listed but I highly doubt they'll all show. I've heard Alexa has been injured but I hope she's able to compete--she stole the show in the junior event last year and she's wonderful to watch when she's "on." And I'd also really like to see how Dorothy is looking these days, so I hope she does compete.

Here's the URL to the competition. If you open the schedule, they have a very complete list of the competitors & competition times listed for each day. Just wish they'd post results.......

Michaela Maione is listed to compete in the Senior Ladies FS tomorrow, but I heard that she collided with another skater while on the ice so I don't know if she'll be competing.

WOW. Aside from Regionals, that was absolutely the fastest I've ever seen results go up. Thanks!

yes. Julia Vlassov skated with Drew Meekins in the Novice pairs. I watched the event and I thought that they did a good job except for the fact that he touched down with his hand on the sbs double lutz. I also thought that she needs to get a better split in the air on the double twist. Otherwise their lift(star lift) was a good position. It could have had a better split but it was really good. Their sbs spins (camel) were really good and in unison. Footwork was fine and so was the pair spin (sit). I think they have a bright future in my point of view.

I was really impressed by these two; I think Julia could have a bright future as a pairs skater. In particular I think she has beautiful line and extension. The only move that didn't seem more than adequate for the novice level was the death spiral; that could still use work. Otherwise, though, she's definitely taken to pairs. (And I don't want to shortchange Drew here; he's not a bad partner at all. :))

However, a friend of mine overheard Julia telling someone after she skated that she doesn't particularly like pairs, so it's entirely possible she won't stick with it. That would be too bad, especially since there's no guaruntee of long-term success in singles, but it's her choice.
