I taped it on Saturday and probably won't have a chance to watch it 'til the new year ...
TIA

I recorded it, but I didn't get a chance to watch the program yet.
That explains why the actual Rockefeller Tree Lighting ceremony showed so little skating. They kept showing Earth Wind & Fire playing and singing -- they taped the skating to be shown later.
If anyone wants to check out the crowd at Rock Center, they have a live "Tree Cam" set up to broadcast over the 'net.

Hey, this could be fun: we can watch the crowd and see how much better we all are at skating!
Jazzpants: It's still not too crowded yet! Unbelievable.

i saw it on tv on saturday and LOVED it! i'm an earth, wind and fire fan though so i knew i'd enjoy the music regardless. there weren't a whole lot of skaters though. my personal favorites were lang and tchernyshev!
edit: Isk8NYC... i'm a bit confused as to your post. earth wind and fire was at the tree lighting, but the tree lighting was different from the show on saturday. the show saturday was taped in bridgeport, CT.

Oh, I thought it was from the Tree Lighting --my mistake.
Now I'm really looking forward to watching the recording! Thanks!

I'm a big Earth, Wind, and Fire also. I'd love to see what skaters had to offer to their melodies. All I can say is you'd better be pretty good if your going to try to skate to the likes of "September" or "Shining Star". I think it's a nice change. These exhibitions could use a little more than the usual classical and techno-beat. Johnny Weir skating to Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" was unexpected and I thought he did an excellent job. Skating to soul is no easier than skating to Gustav Mahler's symphony no.1. It can be done, but you better know how to count. lol

Well even though the skating show wasn't the tree lighting, they did keep showing the band when sometimes I wanted to see the skating. There was one time in particular that a skater was doing running threes (the kind that sort of look like the butterfly move, but without the torso down) and it looked like the three turns were building up to something like a jump or a spin, but then they cut to the band.

I've heard how small that rink is, but that camera angle really showed how tiny it is!

I also felt that the camera crew didn't know what to film next. The cutaways were distracting and a bit frustrating. This seems to be a trend: having live entertainment and skating together. I wonder how the EW&F fans felt about their sharing the "stage" with the skaters?
The skating was very nice, and so was the music.
