Ice Diaries???

I just saw an ad on the Learning Channel (in Canada) for an upcoming show called "Ice Diaries". I think Sasha Cohen was the skater that was shown. Anyone know any more details on this show?

My mom saw an ad on TLC in the US for this too! I would love to know more about it. I couldn't find anything on the TLC/Discovery website.

TLC was taping for the show in Atlantic City during Skate America. They had a producer and camera man there. They filmed many of the fans getting autographs from Alissa and Bebe (and had some people sign releases to be shown on the show), and told us the show was to be about Alissa and Bebe. I think they mentioned Sasha, as well. I get a kick of out of one shot in the ads where they're showing Alissa signing autographs. In the background, I can see a girl who I saw at many of the practice sessions, and who is in the background of a picture I have of myself with Tim Goebel. I just think to myself, "I was right there!"

From what I understand, they followed the skaters around during the season, and filmed them at practices, events and with their friends, families and fans. It should be cute, but sort of a fluff piece. If you go to tlc.com and search "ice diaries," it provides information about two of the episodes, including one about Bebe.

They're showing four girls in the ads--Alissa is the only one I really know, and I think one is Bebe. Who are the other two?

Here's what my tv guide shows thus far for the Ice Diaries line-up on TLC:

Fri 1/6, 10 pm (EST): "Let the Games Begin" with Danielle Kahle at Southwest Regionals.
Fri 1/13, 10 pm (EST): "Race to the Podium" with Bebe Lang at Skate America.

Both of these episodes are repeated multiple times after the first airing listed above. Sylvia has posted more detailed information about the series on the unseenskaters discussion board.

Hi all,

I saw an episode of Ice Diaries last night (friday) on TLC around 10pm. I really *really* like this show because its so real. The whole hour I was just glued to the TV!!

Ice Diaries is a documentary. They rotate 5 minutes of footage with each of the 4 skaters, and the camera follows the skaters' daily lives. You get to watch them interact with their coaches and trainers and the rink and at the gym. They show the different exercises they work on in the gym - such as pilates, medicine ball, weights etc. They also show skaters refining jump technique on the ice with their coaches and the process is made pretty clear, instead of just showing the finished skill.

They showed Alissa Czisny, Bebe Liang, Sandy Rucker, and Danielle Kahle on Friday night.

Very interesting show - Rucker was having some problems with her back, but the whole feeling was a bit Bobek deja-vu-ish... Maybe because Rucker resembles her on the ice in some way?

I had taped the first episode, so I watched it last night. Cute show. Too bad I already know how it ends. Would have been fun to watch it in real time, but I just didn't have the time. Now that I have Tivo, I get to see things I missed later.

I didn't sign a waiver, but I saw myself and my mom in the background of Bebe signing autographs. I've looked at your pictures, and I remember you. I'm pretty sure they showed you and your friends getting pictures taken and such. I get such a kick out of stuff like that!

The episode spent a lot of time focusing on Sandy's trip to regionals. She was still suffering with back pain and had been unable to practice her jumps. She didn't do as well in the qualifying round as she had hoped, but managed to make it on to the next round. She fell twice in the short program and made numerous mistakes in the long. Her coah was not happy with her, because he didn't feel that she was putting her all into her training and felt that she wasn't cooperating with him.

They showed Alissa's trip to Skate Canada- Her flight troubles and first place finish in the compettition.

Bebe was shown in practices, and talked about how skating was the biggest priority in her life, even moreso than school. Her Mom said that her priority for Bebe is school. Mom also talked about her shock when Bebe's coach first suggested she skate more seriously- the time commitment and the cost involved.

Danielle was shown getting new skates. They discussed how hard it was for a single Mom of five to afford all the costs involved in the sport.

Everyone talked about how much they appreciated the sacrafices their parents had made so that they could skate.

I'm really rather surprised no one has torrented it yet. TLC replays things all the time, so there might be a chance I could record it and torrent it, but not until Battlestar Galactica goes into reruns. That's why I haven't seen it yet, BSG is on at the same time.

I would post the episodes if I could - no digital computer access stuff/wouldn't know how to do it anyway! lol
