From the scores that she just posted, Irina Slutskaya is un-beatable! She scored over 70 points in the short! It is clear, the judges have made their OGM choice and it is Irina. Her SS scores can not be beat by anybody. Why should we even bother with the competition...Just give Irina the OGM!

What a joke!

Here's the link (http://www.isufs.org/results/gpchn05/) to the Cup of China results page.

8's in the PCS mark? Hmmm ....

The PCS marks are very subjective ... (As Loops brilliantly pointed out last night,) take a look at Alissa Czisny. Over the course of a few days, from Skate America (http://www.isufs.org/results/gpusa05/) to Skate Canada (http://www.isufs.org/results/gpcan05/), her PCS marks in the SP and LP improved as follows:

Skate America:
SP-PCS = 23.52 [6.00 5.60 5.95 5.90 5.95]
LP-PCS = 52.08 [6.55 6.20 6.75 6.50 6.55]

Skate Canada:
SP-PCS = 26.64 [6.75 6.30 6.80 6.65 6.80]
LP-PCS = 55.12 [6.85 6.50 7.10 7.00 7.00]

That's quite an increase in one week! (Might Alissa be getting some reputation points? Makes me wonder ...)

Wonder nothing! I have a feeling that the #3 spot on the Olympic team for the ladies has been secured!

I don't see how Irina scoring in the 70s in a SP makes her a lock. Sasha has had a SP in the 70s before. Actually, I do believe Sasha is still the world record holder under the CoP for the Ladies. Whether she will actually be prepared to skate better than Irina THIS year is another question, but Sasha definitely has the ability to based on past results.Just a brief note: Code of Points (CoP) now includes Level 4 elements, so the marks from this year cannot be simply compared to previous years'.

Also, I believe the ISU communications have been altered to change the wording on certain element and skating skills. A transition mark of, say, 7.5 a few year's back might now be rate a 6.75 or 7.0.

And marks from last year cannot be simply compared to the previous year, either. The criteria were redefined during that offseason too.

I was just looking at it from this years score. I mean that sp outscores many of the mens sp of the gp so far!

But how can Irina score so highly???? maybe in technical...but in artistic?> No freakin way! She is not an artistic athlete. She may smile and look like shes having fun...but that does not equal Art!

You forgot to add "IMHO" to your critiques of Irina. Some of us think she's a beautiful skater.

If Irina wins every competitions from now on until the Olympics then Turino will simply be a coronation...provided she stands up on all her jumps.

Irina's good, but is her skating skills really so superior to everyone that no other skaters can come close?

Hello everybody, my favorite skater is Jessica Ranko Houston , I love her very much and i want to meet her , but i don't know what her email address is, so if anybody could help me i'll be grateful.Thanks.

It doesn't look like Jessica Houston has a website where fans can write her, and it would be an invasion of her privacy for anyone to post her email address on a public forum. The best thing I could suggest would be for you to send her a fan letter through the Skating Club of Boston rink (scboston.org), and put c/o Jessica Houston so they know it's for her. Good luck.

PS: For future reference, you're posting this in the completely wrong forum, and spamming us with asking the same question in 4 different active threads is really rude, and not the way to get helped. Be a little more considerate next time.

Take a look at the Program Components criteria. It's not just about expression; it's also about very specific, measurable things like speed, edge quality, difficulty of connecting moves, etc. Judges are required to break it down into these components and score each one now, so it's not as subjective as it used to be.

Irina is one of my favorite skaters, but to somehow make her a peer to someone like Sasha in interpretive ability and some of the other component ratings is absurd...and not just IMHO, by the definition of those categories. There are other components that are a bit more technical such as SS where Irina is one of the best. Overall, I think Irina and Sasha, at their best, are a coinflip...if either won hands down, that would be a problem with the judging, but it would be reasonable with either result.

I agree. If both Sasha and Irina skate clean, either could win. Sasha would have an edge in Program Components for her artistry, while Irina might have the edge in the technical score because of her jump difficulty. But ther one who makes a single mistake is going to end up with the Silver. And if Alissa Czisny keeps skating like she is and Sasha chokes, I think Alissa could take the silver!

IMHO I dont think Anyone has a chance against Irina. Sasha will not get the PCS or tech marks to match Irina. Irina could skate around on her bum and they are still going to INFLATE her PCS scores to give her the OGM!

I like Alissa but she is not steady enough on jumps to place in Olympics. She will be lucky to make the top three in US Champs.
