After Daisuke Takahashi skated, I was no longer interested; he carried me away so completely. He is an artist who flies across the ice while the others are mere skaters. Evidently the judges and audience agree. If you catch no other performance from Skate America, do not miss Takahashi, both short and long. I hope he will be consistent.
Lysacek skated well, coming in second, but could have added so much to his interpretation. There were too many stretches of crossovers. Joubert, coming in third, also delivered a flawed performance, but could not have caught Takahashi even if he had skated clean and thrown in a quad. Van Der Perrin, alas, missed his quad takeoff, fell on another jump, and ended in 4th after a very entertaining program to Pirates of the Carribean.
