I need your opinions on something. I am searching for Christmas gifts to buy. And I am thinking of getting a book called figure skating with Carlo Fassi, coach coaching.
Have you guys read that book? Would you guys recommend it to someone?
Thanks

I haven't read it, but what is the person like that you are thinking about buying it for? If it's for a skating fan, then they'd probably like a skating autobiography or skating history book or something like that (some good titles are Stars On Ice, A Year in Figure Skating, and Figure Skating: A Celebration - all some of my personal favourite general skating books), because the book you're describing sounds like it's a book about simply how to figure skate by Carlo (if I am wrong, feel free to correct me!).
But if it is for someone who has an interest in learning how to figure skate and this book is about that, then it sounds like it would be good if there are alot of pictures of the movements and good descriptions about technique. It's just that if the person already knows how to skate and is just a general fan of the sport, then it might be better to give them more of a fan-based book instead of a how-to book. But like I said, I don't know the person you're shopping for - I'm sure you'll know what is best!

I am somewhat familiar with Fassi's book, and it is HIGHLY technical -- not intended for the figure skating fan but rather for the skater him/herself. Much of the book is devoted to the arcane (but oh so lovely!) discipline of school figures, at which the eyes of all but the serious practitioner of the sport -- or the truly knowledgeable fan with a keen appreciation of its past -- will no doubt begin to glaze over.

.......however if your friend is a skater, they may very well enjoy seeing the figures discussed......most skaters recognize what was lost when they were done away with. Could be a valuable resource as coaches with figures experience are harder to find.
