I am planning to come and watch it, but can't find a schedule anywhere. I know that it starts sometime in the afternoon on Saturday, but what about Sunday? Which groups are competing when?
Also, can I buy tickets on the spot or I need to book them (if there are tickets)? Will videotaping/photo be allowed?
And the most important, who of the forum members will be competing there so I know whom to cheer for? I know about Mrs Redboots, anyone else?

I'm meant to be competing but it depends on my arm. I was going to still come up and watch/support my friends even if I don't skate, but I'm not sure what I'm doing at the moment.
I'm not sure if spectators have to pay, but I'm sure you can just turn up and pay on the day if payment is required. It's not a big event like the regular "British"!
As for the schedules, they don't appear to be out yet, and I think videoing is allowed as long as you have the skater's permission (at least it was last year). However flash photography isn't permitted.
Hope this helps!

Hi Nicki

I do hope you can compete it would be nice to see you out there again.

Dont know the answer to that one but pretty confident you could just turn up on the day.
As for the schedules, they don't appear to be out yet, and I think videoing is allowed as long as you have the skater's permission (at least it was last year). However flash photography isn't permitted.
Section 17 and 18 in the rules that came with the application forms are as follows:
17. No flash photography during Championships and Competitions.
18. Videoing of the Championships and Competitions will only be permitted with the prior permission of N.I.S.A.
I will be attending but I dont know anyone from your group, maybe someone else can help?
Look forward to seeing you.
Take care
Grace

I am planning to come and watch it, but can't find a schedule anywhere. I know that it starts sometime in the afternoon on Saturday, but what about Sunday? Which groups are competing when? We don't know yet; what I do know is that the competitions will be 11.30-16.00 on the Saturday, and "all day" (no times given) on the Sunday. As there are a couple of dance workshops before the dinner on the Saturday evening, I am hoping/assuming that the dance events will be on the Sunday.
Also, can I buy tickets on the spot or I need to book them (if there are tickets)? Will videotaping/photo be allowed? As others have said, no need to book for adult events! We don't get a big enough audience for that. And it's one of the Laws of the Medes and the Persians at any skating event that you must never use flash photography - if you can't take a photo without the flash, don't take a photo, and if in doubt, don't! It distracts the skaters and can be dangerous. Mind you, at my home rink that applies if there happens to be a thunderstorm, as we have a clear roof..... or fireworks, in late October/early November!
And the most important, who of the forum members will be competing there so I know whom to cheer for? I know about Mrs Redboots, anyone else?Definitely us (Couples Dance, Elementary); Samba; Batikat (am I right?); NickiT if her wrist permits (Nicki, I do hope so - are you able to skate at all or not just now?)... not sure who else. Max, I expect, will be there in her capacity of volunteer organiser - she did a fantastic job last year, even if the flower-girls did eat all the judges' sandwiches!
Max, do you know anything about the schedules? We should hear fairly soon, I hope. Please could someone - anyone - post when they get theirs, as last year some went astray and had to be e-mailed at the last minute!

I really cannot commit right now. I go back to hospital for more x-rays on Friday and hopefully I'll know more then. So far I've not skated. My coach isn't keen that I skate with a cast. She was coached by Chris Howarth (my former coach's husband) and he didn't even like skaters entering the building if they had a plaster cast on! If the cast isn't off in time I doubt I'll compete. I know I will hold back and not be able to give it my best so I'd rather not set myself up for the disappointment, especially after my success at Bracknell.

See you sooonToo soon! Thanks. By the way, anybody using Firefox won't be able to download it - you have to use IE!

I won't be there this year. I have just finished 3 days of volunteering on the NJS 2 event. We also have our Opens in the week following the Adults so I can't possibly cover another event without risking a nervous breakdown!!
You may have read Peter's letter in icelink about the number of events that are being held and the amount of strain that it has been putting our volunteers under.
So far this year, we have had our own Dance Qualifier, Synchro Champs, the first NJS event, the second NJS event, the NISA cup, the Adults, our Opens and the Championships. I also went and helped at Nottingham for the Pre-Novice and Novice as they needed someone in the results room.
Added to all this are the competitions that my daugher enters, and somewhat surprisingly I only have 2 days holiday left between now and April next year! Surprising - because I didn't think I had any left.
I am sure you will all have a great 2 days and will skate your best and be happy with your performances.
P.s. When you get in your car in the car park, check that you have picked up your dresses and your skates.

I'll be there but I'm confused by the timetable. I thought I had booked both Free practice patches but now there only appears to be one and at a different time I think. I presume we'll get refunded the money for the second practice somehow. Also there was no reminder to put in an SAE for confirmation and I didn't think to, so I have no idea if the money for the practices or for the evening buffet has been received or not. It does seem that poor Sheffield people have hosted more than their fair share of events this year so it's amazing that things usually run pretty smoothly in the end.
It'll be my first time entering a Free skating event in the Championships and I'm very worried!!!! At least it's all over early so I can enjoy the rest of the skating and the buffet. And having looked at the solo dance this year I'd have not stood a chance - whoever thought it was fair to widen the solo dance category 1, to be from 21 - 50 has made it pretty impossible for those of us who learned as adults (in our 30's and 40's) to compete. It's just not worth it when you are in the same group as 21 year olds who have skated as kids or teens or former freeskaters who have switched to dance.
Maybe I'll come back to dance when I'm over 50!

Yes, we didn't book practice ice, but now we're on the ice early, we're coming up on the Friday night, not on the Saturday morning, as originally planned - anybody know if we can still book practice ice, and who to ask?
Also I don't know whether our application for the Jimmy Young Workshop & evening meal were accepted - or if they're still happening.....
Anyway, our timetables arrived in the post this morning with, allegedly, a map that wasn't there. But I do know how to get there, having been there before.
Can't wait to see you all again!
Sceptique, are you still planning to come? If so, most of us here are skating on the Saturday, with one or two on the Sunday as well! Do come and make yourself known to us.
