Just thought it would be good to put some names to faces if anyone is taking part in the skating clinic on Sept 3-4 at the National Ice Centre. I'm really looking forward to it - that's the first time I'll be skating outside of my home rink.

I am! So is Batikat, as well as two or three others from Bracknell. I must say I really need it right now as I've lost my skills a bit following three weeks off the ice due to holidays! I'm really looking forward to it. I went to the last one in April with the same girls who are coming up with me this time and we all had a blast!

Yes I'm going - It'll be my third time (August last year and April this) so you can tell I enjoy it. Shame we'll be on the Olympic rink this time rather than the Arena rink but the coaches are great and meeting loads of other adult skaters in a non-competitve environment is great.
Sceptique - Do you want to give us your real name so we know who you are (you can PM if you dont want to give it out on the forum)
Samba - it's a regular thing but it's not advertised very well. It should be on the Nottingham website - sorry - can't find a link right now. You can email the co-ordinator: marlies.keller@national-ice-centre.com and while it may be a bit late for this one - though they can often take latecomers, she could get you info for the next one.

Many thanks for that Batikat, I have just sent a e-mail.
Cheers

Hope to see you at one of the clinics Samba - but I should warn you in advance about Tatiana's balls!!!!! Tatiana is an incredibly flexible Russian ex-ballerina with a delightful Northern/Russian cross accent and a sadistic line in flexibility exercises
The 'balls' class is infamous! Not to mention the rest of her classes where sometimes you can only stare in amazement that any human body can get itself into such incredible positions! She is sweet though and the classes are fun - sort of!

Sure - I'm Olga with a Russian surname (and accent), about six feet tall, so I'm really easy to spot! I will be in group 1. I'll be dressed in something like this (http://www.avomerfe.com/photos/skating/spiral150805.JPG)
See you there!!

Eek! I am so not looking forward to the balls class. I'm ever hopeful that this time I won't fall off the ball. I'm sure Tatiana's patience was pushed to the limit last time when I was attempting her near impossible positions balanced on a bouncy ball!!!

Hi Olga,
Nicki and I are in group 2 so we will have to wave in passing. I don't dare post any photos of me in skating attire - not a pretty sight.
At your rate of progress and amount of practice I think you will be group 2 by next time!
Are you staying in a hotel in Nottingham or travelling in each day? We will be in The Gateway Hotel - the ones close to the rink or in town can be incredibly noisy and we like our beauty sleep.
See you there

I'll be coming by train on both days - it's not too far from where I live.

Aaawwww, wish I was coming with you. Have a great time everyone, I'd love to have a go at the 'infamous' ball class, it sounds like fun :)
Don't forget ... report and photos, report and photos ....... oh, and if you see Will and/or Viv there please say 'hi' and I hope that they're well :D Will Annabel be going with Robert?

I don't think Annabel is going and I havent' seen Will or Viv there at the last couple but if I do see them I'll say Hi for you. The last one was surprisingly mostly free skaters.
I thought I'd be brave and put up a picture after all. I'm not quite sure what I've done but seem to have set up a whole website somehow but under my daughters name so ignore the Inuyasha (some dreadful Japanese anime type thing) references.
This was after Bracknell Adult Open. Go to the website and click on 'Pictures'.

Maybe I'll put up some more later.......if you all dont' laugh too hard!
Oh - and if I can work out how I did it again!

Yeah well - I had to search for one that was fit to publish!!
You might have seen photos from the British Adult Championships - the 2003 ones were on the Icephoto website. The 2004 ones I think were by Louvain Woodmass and I never did get round to getting one of me - not sure if the photos are still on either of these sites though.
Also if you've ever looked at the Bracknell club website you might have seen a group one with me in it. The 'pair' photos on the home page are my kids.

That's a NICE photo.. and a lovely purple dress (especially the skirt and sleeves!) and a beautiful trophy! I would be happy to have ONE skating photo that looked that good. So please DO post more photos!

oh, and if you see Will and/or Viv there please say 'hi' and I hope that they're well :D Will Annabel be going with Robert? No, we're all going to be competing at Bristol. At least, R & I are, and I have a feeling Will & Viv are, too (not against us, thankfully - they are Intermediate and we are still Elementary) (and I've now got my own hip-flask, so I won't have to swig from theirs!!!!). You'll have to come to the British Adults on 1 & 2 October to see us all - please???? It is in Sheffield again, so you don't really have an excuse (and Will & I commented that you weren't there last year!).

OK, it was no doubt a fun weekend!
Thumbs Up:
Tatiana definitely lived up to her reputation. I don't remember being so pushed up to my fitness limit for years! I just found a whole new set of off-ice conditioning heights to aspire to!
Got a few very useful tips: on spins, 3 turns. Off-ice jump technique is also something to pay attention to.
Got a luvvvvvly practice dress in the skating shop at the rink. So neat, I wish I could wear it to the office on Monday! :D
Thumbs Downs:
I wish we would have spent a bit more time on ice, rather than hanging around during the super-long lunch break, but I guess that depended on ice availability, which leads nicely to my 2nd complaint:
The ice quality was horrendows!! It felt like you're rolleblading over rough tarmac rather than ice skating. I think many of us were just afraid to try out properly those cool new exercises because they didn't feel they could handle them on that ice. Well, hot weather was partly to blame and you can't really complain about hot weather in UK, that'd be a blasphemy  , we don't get it too often over here.
It was nice to meet batikat and NickiT "in flesh", and also other UK skaters. I guess, I'll be looking forward to the next one in April.

I haven't been on this site for ages, so only just saw this thread - I was there too :) I was in group one. It was good! I agree that more ice time would be better though.
Re: the ice quality - it's normally better than that. I think it was because some of our sessions were immediately following the busy public skates.
