Having recently competed in an ISI Artistic category, although there is no score for technical ability, don't be surprised to see technical content being rewarded. Also, be aware that there are no technical limitations based on the level you are competing at, unlike most other ISI competitive categories. I competed and observed FS 2 and FS 3 competitions. Winners in each category did flips, lutzes, lutz-loops, loop-loops. They also did camel spins, layback spins, and sit-change sit spins. I personally think that these individuals should have been competing at least in the FS 4 category, but that's JMHO.

For those people that were appropriately competing at the FS 2 and 3 level, the ones with higher placements had smooth flow, a good display of power/lack of tentativeness in their skating, and nice bauers, spirals and back lunges.

If you are a female adult, all other things being equal, you will likely place higher if you have a smaller, more "traditional" skater build. At least with the judges at the event I was at. It was the first time I ever saw something like that at an ISI event.
