 I think what I was going to say was a rumor. I thought it connected to the ISFF, but it didn't. Sorry.

WVgal has announced that Irina's LP music is from Verdi's opera - La Traviata. Is that what you were going to post AA?

Yep - That was what I was going to say. I posted that information here, and then I thought I had best check my facts. I went to ISFF, and it wasn't posted there, nor on the Discussion Forum. I had a heart attack, and came back and edited my post here. That is what I get for trying to be in such a hurry to deliver the scoop! 8O

I am so excited about the music choice. It is going to be exquisitely wonderful! It just doesn't get much better!

Anyone know which aria or part?

I love opera, so I LOVE this choice of Irina's.

another opera? i was hoping for something more along the lines of her "Culture" SP, that was actually original. but it seems Irina has consistently done opera for the past few seasons with positive results, so why change it i guess...but i'm pretty disappointed. i think opera is a bit heavy for Irina's high-spirited skating.

Well, it depends on what aria or selections she chooses whether it is "heavy" or not...opera is not "heavy"...although this particular opera, La Traviata, is very heavy, and was enormously progressive in defense of women at the time it was written...outlandishly rebellious in fact. Its well known that Verdi was a fighter for democracy in Italy, including women's rights! Still, the Brindisi, which Petrenko skated to in 1994, is a drinking song, very light.

The operas, Daughter of the Regiment and Elixir of Love, for instance, are not at all "heavy", are really light and great fun. The latter is a take-off on Tristan and Isolde.

What opera and classical music have on other forms of music is extreme complexity, with changes of tempo, mood, etc. and that's what makes it so great for skating. Its not predictable. Opera also forms much of the basis for all other forms of music.
